Ft Wayne Assembly Quality Control

If anyone here works at Fort Wayne assembly take note, some of your fellow workers don't give of crap about QUALITY. So now I have to give the dealer a bad report and he is going to po'd at me.

 

I have owned many GM trucks dating back to the 70's but for some reason this is the first one I have ever owned that was built at Fort Wayne Assembly. They have some quality control issues that drive me nuts. No truck should leave with these issues. Of course the dealer is supposed to find and correct these but few do which leaves the customer to deal with them.

 

2010 Sierra E. Cab All Terrain Z71 built 03/10

total miles to date 1,270 miles

 

1. Windshield washer solvent nearly empty

2. Power Steering 5 oz low

3. Hood loose, moves when driving, corner bumpers not adjusted correctly

4. Z71 decal on left side crooked, not level with vehicle

5. Some kind of rattle with exhaust system that goes away with a slight foot pressure applied to t-pipe

6. Large number written on sidewall of the front tires, the dealer washed up the truck and still can be seen all be it, ghost image. I cleaned them good and still won't come off completely.

7. More to come I am sure........

 

My last 6 e. cabs all came from Oshawa assembly and I never found these kinds of issues.

Not making excuses but #1 and #2 should be checked by the dealer pre-delivery to the customer.

 

#6 is normal. Every vehicle I have purchased has had this, check the dealers lot I bet almost all of them have this (this is what I have noticed) The factory does this for some reason and I cannot recall the exact reason. It takes a few washes and it will come off. That is not a big deal in my opinion.

 

As far as the bumpers and cosmetic stuff that isnt acceptable. Personally I wouldnt have taken delivery from the dealer until that was fixed.

 

Off topic my 2000 was built in Fort Wayne and was a great truck. Very minor issues.

I never noticed those at first. The hood only moves while driving, the Z71 deal looks bad from 50 ft or more away but up close it hard to tell its on crooked.

 

Fwiw - My Cadillac CTS4 never had these quality issues. Its workers who don't care..

#1,2,& 6 is the responsibility of the dealer for sure,1 & 2 are part of the PDI process (The factories have never filled the washer fluid bottles up) and 6 is part of the pre-delivery cleaning.

 

I have had two trucks from Ft.Wayne,A '93 reg.cab short-bed Z71,and my current '07,No issues with either one.

No problem here as well!! Just my dealer where I bought SUCK!! SHAGANAPPI!! Horible sales staff!! They just had what I wanted I hate give business to someone who does not deserve but this is the truck I wanted.

 

Sorry to get off topic how can you tell if you have a g80 locker diff thanks???

To tell if you have a G80 locking differential, you can look in the glovebox at the option list, also known as the RPO sticker. There you'll find the service parts information as far as codes of stuff that came on your truck (assuming you're talking about your '09). You should see "G80" on there. If it's there, you got it. If not...well, then you don't.

With the exception of the exhaust rattle, which could be a loose shield, everything else on that list is a very small issue to complain about. I would not feel so bad if nothing else went wrong with the truck.

I saw a blue number hand written behind the box just below the window in the back. It is driving me crazy. Anyone figure out how to get rid of that? Figured that is from the factory too.

nothings perfect, you have a warranty..deal with it...if its really bugging you take it back and get a different truck..

For $42,000 there should be none of this crap....end of story

price tag has minium impact on minor issues from a factory, when trucks are built every truck is built the same regardless of what package is on it, they aren't going to go the extra miles to make sure a more expensive model is any better then a W/T package truck...theres going to be errors in anything humans build, its life

I'm not bashing you, but if these are things that bothered you this much, why did you accept delivery of the truck? Why didn't you tell the dealer, "no deal until you tighten hood, top off fluids, adjust bumper, and replace the sticker"? If its that bad, I'm sure you'd be more happy with the excellent build quality Kamikaze Motors (toyoda) has been putting out lately.

I admit, I would not sleep for a month if I had that ghost lettering image on the sidewall of one of the tires.
