2010 Silverado Crew - Noise From Rear Pass. Corner

What problems have you heard with covering the vent?

Pressure building in the cab, defroster not working.

Also if you or any of your passengers get car sickness easily i would advise against covering those. Without the proper ventilation the cab will build up negative pressure till your ears pop, then you'll get sinus pressure followed by a headache (it's the worst car sickness you will ever experience) so now you have a decision to make, put up with that sound or get sick while driving.

How does a cab with poor ventilation create negative pressure? I would assume it to be positive...

My Sierra is at the dealer currently getting the TSB update. They worked on it all day today and gave me a Cadillac DTS rental for tonight and tomorrow. I hope this means they are doing an extra thorough job. I'll update with my opinion of the results. After driving the Cadillac, it's really not much quieter than my truck before the service bulletin. Maybe the roads in Iowa are just that shitty...

Well Ill put my thoughts in here as well. I bought an 09 silverado crew cab in sept of 09. It was whisper quiet. I traded it on a 2010 Sierra crew because i wanted the 6.2L for towing. 5 miles from the dealership while merging onto the interstate which the on ramp was concrete, I heard noise and thought the passenger rear window or door was not shut. I put window down and back up then slowed and had my son open and close door. It was nite and day difference from the 09. I finally had it in to dealer in Dec and they want to replace door weather stip. I told them thats fine but problem is with vent. I told him of the numerous tech bulletins, He then told me of a new tech bulletin 10-8-58-001D. I love it when they dont know what to say when you start mentioning tech bulletin numbers. Anyway, I wish I knew someone with an 09 to compare the vents ect. Or just order one and do the comparision my self. I to have been diehard GM truck guy. Of the most recent ones I have had (99 ext cab, 03 ext cab, 05 crew, 09 crew) this one is by far the noisyest...

You know I just might do that, order one

^^^^ Something changed in 2010, i thought i heard it was the design of the vents, but don`t know for certain.

I had my dealer perform the current "TSB" but i do not have high hopes its much better. :)

My dealer says they "did" something according to the TSB, however reading over the papwerwork it basically says they looked up my VIN and said it had all the latest parts of the TSB installed already.

Oh and it was just as loud as when I Dropped it off.

i had some time to kill and was in the area tonight so I stopped by the dealer and test drove a 2009 crew cab....although i could hear some road noise(which is expected) it at least sounded like the rear door was closed tight

i have an apt next week with the service manager. He wants to drive my truck and then a truck from lot inventory to compare. Guess I will tell him to drive the 09

I've had the TSB done. Makes no difference. I have also been told that the 2011 is even worse, because they

are using even thinner sheet metal in that area - this from the tech that fixed mine and drove a 2011 as a comparison.

Question - would / did / has installing a lift made any difference to this issue? Maybe the added height may "suck" away some of the noise?

My 2011 CC definitley has this issue. When I'm driving down my rock driveway at slow speeds it sounds like the RR door is open, so its not just a wind noise.

I can't believe they sent these trucks out like this.

They need to come up with a fix because this is rediculous.

as of this morning, they admit that the fixes did not work, but since GM does not have a solution, there is nothing they can do but call them and wait.

I had my 09 in for the TSb and I think it is louder now! I have a friend that his wifes 09 had the tsb and nothing. He had the TSB on his 10 and nothing.

Here is the fix according to my friend. Get some carpet padding, he used auto padding. Take the back seat out (jump seat on my crew.)

You have to fold the carpet padding and stuff it behind the plastic and grey/blue felt stuff and in front of the vent. It must be thick enough to hold itself in place. He mentioned something about a knock out to gain access.

He said it is now quite. He did both vents. The padding allows the vent to breath. I am going to do my truck this week. He is going fix his wifes truck too. My dealer mentioned that this was how they were now trying to fix such.

Has anyone tried installing a crap load of sound deadener (ie dynamat) in the back of the cab? That's got to be a way better fix than the one GM is trying to come up with. That coupled with a noise barrier mat I'm sure would do a much better job.

Insulated my old truck, '97 reg cab C1500 W/T. More for heat & A/C but knocked down a lot of road noise:

1). B/C-posts are hollow tubes, stuffed with household fiberglass batt. Worked from the speaker holes using a flexible yardstick.

2). Foam injected the hollow double roof, A-posts and hollow cross post under the rear window.

3). Built a rear wall panel out of 1 1/2 inch rigid foam board covered with marine carpet. Held in place at the top by baseboard covered in the same carpet.
