2010 Silverado Crew - Noise From Rear Pass. Corner

I had my 09 in for the TSb and I think it is louder now! I have a friend that his wifes 09 had the tsb and nothing. He had the TSB on his 10 and nothing.

Here is the fis according to my friend. Get some carpet padding, he used auto padding. Take the back seat out (jump seat on my crew.)

You have to fold the carpet padding and stuff it behind the plastic and in front of the vent. It must be thick enough to hold itself in place. He mentioned something about a knock out to gain access.

He said it is now quite. He did both vents. The padding allows the vent to breath. I am going to do my truck this week. He is going fix his wifes truck too. My dealer mentioned that this was how they were now trying to fix such.

I talked to my friend with the '10 crew again. If you get the jump seat out, you will find the blue/gray felt stuff. There is a small cut out in the material just in cabin from the vent. Open that up and stuff your carpet padding in front of the vent (covering the vent) and behind the felt material. The padding must be folded enough to hold (wedge) itself in there. tape the cut out back up and replace seat. His is quiet now. He did both vents.

Is the wind noise occuring in every truck that GM is putting out or is it just random trucks? Just got my 2011 Extended Cab and have wind noise coming from the right rear, sounds like a window is open or the door not fully closed. Am very disappointed as my 2008 had no noise. It is going into Chevy this week.

GM did the 'fix' on the truck and it worked but sure wish I would have been able to watch to see what exactly was done. The GM tech said they blocked the passenger side vent and put some foam on the rear isolator panel. He said they had tried all the fixes recommended in the TSB but had no success so came up with their own solution. If the vents are defective it would be nice if they could just replace them with one that worked but wonder if they would have to remove the box in order to do that. The best fix would be to build them at the factory so there is no problem to begin with.

My 2011 CC has the noise, but I'm so deaf it isn't a big problem!

Has anyone noticed if it is different when the wind is blowing or blowing from different directions?

Has anyone had their someone else drive while they set in the back and tried to narrow down where the noise is coming from? If it's coming from the cab vent, a guy (who can hear!) should be able to pinpoint it.

And it is always the passenger side, even though there are two rear cab vents?

Just some thoughts from an old mechanic...

it's sad GM will deliver a truck like that to you and hope you don't say anything. picked mine up today and heard it right away. really sad GM is taken this long to solve this problem. sounds like a class action law-suit would help cure this problem real quick. We have 3 new 4 door gm 3500 and no noise from any of them. Thank god i'm a fleet manger and will be looking at the new fords. Also cancelled the other new gm's I had on order.

Note: I drove, last week, a 2011 all terrain CC with the 6.2. It had no such wind/vent noise. They may have fixed something on the late model 2011s?? And the 6.2 is nice.

Carpet padding now in place over both rear cab vents. It is a lot better. Noise is now what you would call normal rather than the window open noise. The doors still close with no problem. However I do notice a resticted air flow with fan on. I open the rear slider and the fans volume picks up considerably. I may try partical uncovering one vent to allow the fan to operate as needed.

As many of you know, noises within a vehicle can come from many different sources. The latest bulletin (10-08-58-001E) you are talking about actually has 3 different corrections depending on the noise and vehicle involved. Wind noises are especially hard to pin point as they can come from many different sources both exterior and interior. We know that many customers were frustrated while we developed an improvement for this condition. Also, levels of noise within a vehicle are very subjective based on each customer’s level of tolerance and type of noise. We have worked to develop a correction for this noise which is evident to the number of updates to the bulletin. We will continue to monitor feedback from our customers to make sure we have met their expectations. For anyone that is experiencing this issue, we encourage you to bring your truck in to the dealer so that the latest repair can be performed. If you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via private message. Thank you.

I appreciate you replying to this thread. I will tell you though that when I test drove the truck on the highway this noise was not present. My tolerance is pretty high considering I've ridden motorcycles for 32 years now. Parts are scheduled to come in this coming Monday so I'll know if it fixed the problem mid next week.

I am glad to see that you are working with your dealership to have this issue resolved. Please feel free to keep me informed with any new developments in regards to the fix either by post or private message. Thank you in advance.

"Take it to the dealer" is very nice for those that have a local dealer. Mine is 70+ miles away and it costs me time and fuel to "take it to the dealer". I want to know this issue has a fix, then I will let the dealer know I have the issue, then when they get the parts needed in for the repair, we can schedule a time to get it fixed.

Well it's done. Although there is some difference I can't say that it's drastic or for that matter worthwhile for the majority of people IMO. I clearly remember driving the truck when I was about to purchase it and it didn't sound as loud, something happened along the way and I don't know what. If you are near a dealer go do the fix but don't expect considerable change. I'm actually disappointed in the outcome and I believe GM didn't really look into this thoroughly enough. I personally think the cab vents are designed poorly which can be the root of the problem. Just my two cents......your mileage will vary.
