Dissapointed In Hid's

Well I asked for and recieved an HID conversion kit for fathers day. I installed them (6000k low beams), disabled the DRL's, and did everything as I should. They suck IMO, bright as heck if you're looking at them and give alot of light directly in front of the truck but I can barely see going down the road! They don't throw the light far enough whatsoever, they're almost like really bright foglights is my best description. Can't figure out whats going on as everyone swears up and down how great HID's are. Do I need to adjust my headlights to get more light farther down the road?

You should also note that the higher the color temperature, the less light it actually produces... the 4200k-4500k kits are the brightest. I'd see if you can get some 4200k bulbs to see if that helps. But based on your description, it seems like there's some sort of mechanical problem with how they are being reflected.

What year/model truck do you have?

I never heard anyone complaining about HIDs not putting out enough light in front of the truck. Mostly they complain it puts too much light to the sides and blinds oncoming traffic. 6000k are really bright, I had 10000k in my last truck and they were pretty bright just deep blue in color.

Maybe you are use to your yellow ones and your HIDs are white so they blend in. Are you testing them in a dark area? Do they reflect off stop signs?

I have them in my 07 sierra and love them. Did you adjust your headlamps after you installed them? I had to adjust mine down a little, also if you have fog lights get a set for them. The fogs make a big difference.

can we see a pic of the box your kit came in? also maybe a pic of the light coming off the truck (no flash)?

I'll take pics when I get home from work tonight, truck is an 09 Silverado, I live in a very rural area and tried them out on a completely dark road (no streetlights) and couldn't see very far compared to my regular bulbs I replaced.

Gentlemen,

i have only driven 3 vehicles with hid. My \Acura and my brother's Mercedes. IMHO, they both suck. Lights must be aimed too low to keep oncoming traffic safe from light. I have to use my bright lights much more than before.

On the Acura, I would pay to get halogens.

I had HID's installed on my '02 YukonXL........amazing! It's on the list for my current truck.

Where did you buy them from? How much did they cost?

They were a Fathers Day gift so I'm not sure, I hate to not use them being they were a gift from the kids but I just feel like they're not bright enough. Like I said directly in front of the truck it's lit up great but as for distance they suck big time compared to my stock halogens. Maybe I'm just not used to the color of the light but I feel like I am struggling to see.

are they actual HIDs or just some blue bulb? like a real HID bulb with ballast setup?

True HID's with the ballast and 6000k bulbs

i really dont know much about this but i read guys on here saying that you really need different housings for the HID's to work good

But there are tons of guys one here with the same housing who are satisfied and I've seen pics and they are pretty bright.

Maybe you were given a really cheap or defective set. Pics would help alot
