My ac belt squeeks when my AC is not on. I did a recharge and put in 0.8kg or 1.8g's of refrigerant and did it on a viper recharge machine. I opened the oil valve for a fraction of a second and probably put in 50ml of oil. My ac blows cold and is great but when i turn it on the truck is very underpowered and makes a big bang noise when it engages. I just want to know what i can do to prevent the intermediate squeel when my AC is not on. I have just replaced the belt along with the recharge and cleaned the pulleys with brake cleaner.

May be a long shot but how is the tensionor? Also if there is too much oil in the system will that not add stress to the motor? Just my .02

and cleaned the pulleys with brake cleaner.

You sure that's not the cause of your squeak?

I'd give some belt dressing a shot first; though it also sounds like the pulley bearing might be the cause of your troubles as well.

Yah, get yourslef a new AC pulley, itll eventually sieze, snap the belt and stall you out.

If your belt is all gooped up replace that too while everythings apart. Its easy and cheap.

Ya running the AC makes these trucks even more gutless on the road hahaa

IM GUNNA CUT THAT DAMN BELT

Don't do it man! Don't do it. There are other ways to handle this...just put the knife down and talk with us...you don't want this to get bad. I know your stressed out, but taking that stress out on something you love ain't the answer!

Lol...

Overtighening the belt can cause it to make noise as well.

I'd pull the belt off the AC pulley and spin it to see if it's fine. Should be smooth. Not uncommon for that bearing to wear out (especially if you overtighten the AC belt).... Don't ask me how I know this.

my 04's ac also thumps on occasion, belts brands new i replaced it after it began to squeek and crack....

HAHA, im a little more calm now... it is only intermitent and only seems to happen when the AC is not on. I just replaced the AC belt and Serp Belt. I think i will maybe replace the tensioner and AC pulley when I have the time. So far it hasnt made any noise for 2 days.

You have a couple bearings in play when the clutch is not engaged.... I would start with a tensioner assembly...... Next would be the Clutch.. Next compressor bearing..... If the clutch is doing it, then it is time for a A/C job....

Also, a old pulley and a new belt will have intermittent belt noises until they clean each other up (also happens on a new pulley and old belt).

Jbo

Edit: by the way you have a 2003, it has an automatic tensioner..... Probably is not toooo tight. Now if it had a jack screw, I might think sooo. I am taking it you have a belt that is listed for the truck on the A/C the NAPA number is 25-040378.

Oh yeah belt dressing on a serpentine system can cause the belt to come off. I have witnessed this in my parking lot. Also, if you just have to try it..... stand up wind.... If you don't your going to be poke-a-dotted after you finish spraying the belt.

I've been using belt dressing on many, many serpentine-equipped engines for several years now; never once had a problem. :jester:

That would be "polka-dotted." :D

UPDATE:

- had my AC rockin hard the other day and blew ANOTHER blower resistor. Smoke came out of the vents and had no speeds on my manual climate control knob with 1 - 5 settings. NAPA is going to send me a resistor for free but if it goes again GM OEM is going in to see if that is better.

Does anyone know what causes resistors to blow? and what I can do to fix or prevent this problem? I also cleaned out my blower fan and checked it and it was fine.

- belt hasnt squeeled since I havent used the AC in my truck because I have no blower so waiting on NAPA to order more in so I can set it all up again.

PLEASE HELP BEFORE MY TRIP TO BUFFALO!!

That's kind of odd that it took out all 5 positions at once. Have you checked the wiring and the connector for the blower resistor?

I'm glad I am not the only one who thinks so!

Mine doesn't squeek but it does make a loud bang sometimes when first turned on.

Mine too. Every time I turn it on.

yeah the first time the resistor went it only took 1 and 2 position. This time it took out all 5. When I took the resistor out I inspected the other connectors and the blower fan. Everything looked and smelt fine other than the resisitor. The silicone was cracked and it smelt really burnt (same smell/smoke out of vents). Hopefully when I replace the resistor (AGAIN) that I dont find out I need a more expensive part. I was reading on SS forums and they said if your AC vent tube ( the one that lets out the water) is clogged it can flood your truck and blow your resistor. Looks like ill be taking a little look at that tube and making sure she isnt clogged up. Any input or past experiences would be great knowledge for me as I am trying to prevent this from happening again or having to buy a more expensive part because of a small mistake.

Thanks a lot guys,
