Repainting Bodyside Molding

Recommended Posts

The plastic bodyside molding on my 03 Silverado is fading and I am looking to repaint it. Is it possible to remove the chrome strip to make painting easier?

Isn't the molding on GMT800s black textured plastic? If so, paint isn't what you want. Give this stuff a shot:

It must have depended on the color of the truck. Mine is dark grey metallic and came painted from the factory.

I don't think the Chrome comes off. I bought replacement moldings for my truck, and from GM they come with tape over the Chrome, and ready for paint.

You'll need to tape off the chrome (or just paint the whole thing one color).

So you bought the paint-to-match bodyside moldings from GM and the chrome came perfectly masked off already?

Masking tape and an exacto knife will do it for less. Vaseline works good to but, thats more for emblems and stuff.

Yes. If I remember correctly, the Chrome had that blue plastic film over it so you just needed to spray it, pull the film off and install them.

I had to replace 2 due to an incident with wife+garage door side. Otherwise, if they weren't broken, just tape them off and spray them.
