When City Fireworks Go Bad...

Just thought I would share some photos with all of you of the aftermath of my July 4th. I was sitting in my truck watching the city fireworks display in a school parking lot, perhaps 300 yards from the launch site. About mid-way through the program, one of the fireworks apparently detonated prematurely - close to the ground. About 6 to 10 seconds later, I think, it seemed like a huge explosion took place in the cab of my truck. A piece of shrapnel from the defective firework tore a 12" x 3" hole in my roof directly above the front passenger seat, ripped up the front lower cushion of said seat, and destroyed the right front door panel. For good measure, it put a sizeable dent in my floorpan.

I am lucky I had no passengers at the time, and I seemed to escape death by only 30" or so. I was completely unhurt; my truck's damage is estimated at $4,600 to $4,700.

You just never know!

You could always add a sun roof now. Wow thats pretty crazy and I guess we know why they dont ever want people to be so close to the fireworks. That sucks about your truck good thing no one was hurt. Hope you everything gets fixed like you wanted.

The hole in your roof isn't. I also hope they are going to pay for the damages!!

Thanks for posting this. It's good ammo when my 13 yr old son starts arguing about how "fireworks are really safe now... not like when you were a kid...". Glad nobody was hurt.

Wow! That is nuts. I'm glad no one was hurt. This is definitely one of those 'it could never happen to me' moments.
