I know im going to get biased results from here, but im looking for info to help me make a decision. ive test drove a super cab 250 with the 6.2 and 4:30 gearing and a 2010 2500 ext cab 6.0 with 4:10 gearing . im going to be towing around 10-12k about 5-8 times a year as well be my daily driver. heres the complicated part being a daily driver i need to have decent mpg with my gearing can someone here that has had the opportunity to play with these 2 trucks share their info with me, what you did or didnt like about the 6.0 or6.2 what kinda mpg youre getting commuting or towing, all help is greatly appreciated. I almost forgot thanks for the opportunity to join a great forum!

Fords, in general, don't get as good of gas mileage as chevys do. Ford makes a good truck just as long as you don't run into any electrical issues. Every (2) expedition I've had has had minor electrical problems like relays and coil packs going bad. But, my most recent ford has not had any major problems except that the passenger window fell down into the door and a new window regulator had to be put in. But, my chevrolet, not one problem what-so-ever, the 6.0l is a very very good engine and will get better gas mileage than the ford. But, how they tow head to head, I don't know.

I read that pickuptrucks.com is working on a shoot-out between the new 2011 trucks. Not sure when it'll be published, though.

Looking at the specs, you'll probably be hard pressed in normal driving telling the diff between the GM and Ford gas motor trucks. Ford's set-up is an 'all new' motor and 'all new' trans, where GM's 2011 engine and trans is not all new, but much of the chassis is. Bigger brakes on the GM offerings is not something that scares me. The first year of a new trans or motor might make me think a bit before I buy as I don't like to get the first year of any major component that is all-new when performance is similar, but some people may be willing to.

Did you test drive the 6.7l 250? I was next to one this morning on my way to work and couldn't tell it was a diesel, very quite. Was it the same for the 6.2l? How was it against the GM?

It all will come down to which truck you liked best. Which did you like (honestly)?

I'm not really a fan of the Fords, but my brother just bought a 06 F150 and it does look sharp. I got to ride with him for a quick little trip and I think it's pretty wide inside, we fit 3 adults across the front and we had plenty of room, I think it might have a bit more shoulder room than my 08 Silverado. I really didn't care for the seats, they felt way to flat and were soft but not comfortable. But if I were in the market for another truck I would probably give them a good look.

The new 2011 F250 are very nice, but the main selling point is how quiet they are. I'm serious, you don't even think there running a diesel engine.

Don't shoot me folks! :troll:

dirtymax would be my choice, the platform has proved itself now for what a decade? ford cannot seem to get their diesel just right...yes the dirtymax had minor flaws but it wasen't shooting flames out the tailpipe....

i did test drive the 6.7 diesel and that thing doesnt compare to the 6.2 that diesel is a hoss, i just dont know if i wanna pay the premium price for the fuel and engine. the local dealer gave it to our company to keep for about 4 days and the mpg is unreal even when towing the bobcat and trailers we were still getting 16-17 .

I drove a 6.0 2500hd crew cab at work, and I was quite impressed. That motor has some great power to it, and pulls good down low. Never driven a dmax though.

Up in power? Stats are the same since the 6.7 came out, 350hp, 650 ft lbs torque.

IMO, FME, I would get a GM 1500 with their 6.2 in the towing packages, if you really need a 2500 get a Duramax and do not even mess with a gasser, as for a brand new power plant in a Ford or any new vehicle, do yourself a favor and let someone else work out the kinks.

    • This is a really late reply but I just found this thread. They won't sell the hinges. I've gone 7 rounds with them. Their solution is to buy a new cover. I'm about to buy a new cover and it won't be a Bakflip. It also won't be from realtruck.com.
    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
