Photoshop problems

OK, WHO KNOWS HOW TO USE PHOTOSHOP?  I cant figure out how to make a white background around an object transparent.  It is a small logo and I want to paste it onto a larger photo but when I do it has white around the logo.  How do I get rid of it? Does anyone know what I am refering to?

I'm guessing the pic in your sig is what you're doing.  But, I usually use the selection tool and carefully select around an object than it's copy and paste time.

I used the magic eraser tool.  Photoshop is new to me so I dont know much on how to use it.  I couldnt think of a better pic to use in my sig, that is the only thing I could come up with.
