Rough Idling and Hard to start

Thought I would share my experience and possibly help others that are seeing the same problem.

 

A few months ago my truck started to idle roughly when stopped at red lights. At the time I thought it was nothing since it only did it occasionaly. I'm talking like once every two weeks and as soon as the light turned green and I hit the next light, it wasn't there anymore.

 

A few weeks ago my truck started to get harder and harder to start. The longer it sat, the harder it was to start. Once started it would run fine though. Until finally the truck just wouldnt start unless I squirted starting fluid down the it's throat.

 

Took it into the shop and it turned out to be the Fuel Pump, it was going bad and wasn't getting fuel pressure into the lines. Had it replaced and it runs and starts like a champ again.

I think this is good info for some of us old Hot Rodders that grew up on carbed engines. These fuel injection systems are very picky about constant and correct fuel pressures.
