New Sierra, Stuck/stripped Cab Bolt?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to mount the cab steps and of course the very last cab bolt I need to take out (driver's center) seems to be either stuck or stripped. It just spins and won't move in our out. Anyone have any suggestions????? I've tried slightly jacking the cab to put some tension on it and that didn't work.

Are mounting the steps or taking them off? I did that with mine 09 and actually broke the bolt off. The stupid nfabs people sent me both metrics and standards. Of course I used the standards and it got stuck. Well, I just took the drill and drilled right through the bolt. In your case I might get that kit from sears that they sell to remove stripped bolts and try it.

I'm trying to take the bolt out. I can push on it and move it in. So I either have a stripped section of threads of a big glob of the blue loctight they use on them. I've tried pushing in, prying it out while turning the bolt, and jacking the body in the area....nothing will work. Looks like a trip to the body shop I guess. I'm sure the bolt is toast, and with my luck, I wouldn't be suprised if the nut in the body is too.

Wires, that is what I was thinking too. I don't know how it could be replaced either. The nuts are surrounded by metal and there's no access to it. I guess the driver's side will only have 2 brackets on it.

You do not need that nut to install step rails. I drilled them all out in mine '09. Just use a standard nut and bolt in that place. I used a large drill bit to drill out the core of that nut then use a wrench over the nut. Take a rubber mallet and hit the wrench in both directions. The nut will come off without a lot of effort.

Did you get this fixed? I'm guessing you used an impact wrench and broke the retaining bolt free.
