Squeeling Brakes

I hit about 18000 miles on my 08 Silverado and the front brakes started to squeel. However this seams to only happen when I apply the brakes the first few times when leaving my street. The brakes feel as though they have plenty left. Is there any way to clean the pads or rotors to stop the squeeling or should I just replace the pads.

Sounds like it is the brakes cleaning themselves of the thin rust-layer that forms on the rotor overnight. I don't think you have anything to worry about. It's very normal.

Ditto. Mine do that if it rains overnight. Just the first application then quiet.

I did replace my brakes with Hawk SuperDuty and they squealed CONSTANTLY. Put Napa ultra premium on last week and quiet as a mouse.

Your breaks are done or close to it. Mine where shot at 19K and started to squeal off and on at 17K. Take it to the dealer as some have been able to get the dealer to replace them. If you feel a vibration under breaking have them replace your rotors too. I had to pay for both out of pocket. Good luck!

That's what I though too. Not all 08's are affected, but you should be able to tell easily by looking at them. I hope I'm wrong but just wanted you to check yours and see what if anything the dealer can do for you. My 02 didn't need front pads until 60k, I just thought GM used cheap breaks on the newer trucks. But after new pads and rotors, she stops like she I even opened a case with the NTSB, but that's a whole other story. Good luck!

Mine are starting to squeal more frequently. They used to do it only after it rained. Now it does after after almost every cold start. :)

I had it sit at the airport for 3 days and it was ridiculous after that amount of time. LOUD and grabbed HARD. One of the local Chevy dealers is advertising new brakes for $99 per axle. Or I may just do it myself.:cool:
