Hello. I have a 93 C1500 and it has a second battery tray. I was just wondering why this second battery would be used. it has no cables goingto it so i dont know if they have been removed or if they were never installed. I understand that diesels need an extra battery to crank but mine is a gas 5.7L

Any info would be appreciated!

It must have had the snow prep package which includes a mount for the second battery. Or, what I bet is someone took the charcoal canister out of the pickup and it seems like it has an extra battery tray. Because that's where the charcoal canister is on a 5.7l, and people used to take them out when they didn't like how emissions laws were doing them.

Thank you for the reply! The charcoal canister is still in place right beside the tray. there is a battery tray there so i assume it did have that snow prep package.

My truck has the second battery tray but no snow prep package. I installed the second battery for my winch.

my 98" Z71 has it to and i was told my a local battery, starter, alternator rebuild shop that its there because it was easier for GM to do it to every truck in that line. you can add a second battery simply by placing one there and running cables to it. another simple upgrade is go to a Escalade alternator which, from what they said, puts out a little more amp's.
