2010 5.3 Header Brands

I just bought a 2010 5.3 SIERRA 5.3 4x4 and wanted to put headers with true duals, x pipe, and no cats. I see that stainless works sells this setup but it only says 6.2l. I called them and the guy didnt seem to know much he said it might fit it might not and i dont plan on buying something trying to make it fit and then having to send it back and pay shipping to not get a full refund. Will the stainless works 6.2l headers and off road pipes fit my 5.3l?

I was looking at kooks and dynamaxx as well. Kooks is a great brand i have their LTs on my GTO and it was a perfect fi and high quality and it specifically says it will fit my 2010 5.3 but they are more expensive and only come with a y-pipe setup. I could just have somebody fab me up some mid pipes but the ball flanges are about $100 a piece. The dynamaxx looks like a nice piece as well but i dont want cats since i dont need them.

if anybody has any experience with headers on a NBS 5.3 id love to hear your opinions and results. thanks.

The headers should be the same between the 4.8,5.3,6.0, and 6.2.

6.2l headers will NOT fit the 5.3l they have a completely diff exhaust port. Sry but if you had them already i would get them off your hands :)

I agree. The 6.2L uses L92 style cylinder heads with a different exhaust port vs the 5.3L that utilizes the Gen III, IV 799 or 243 casting heads.

check out pacesetter. there cheap but make good headers. i had mine on since august and i love them on my 5.3. they definitely woke up the engine and my truck sounds MEAN. you can also buy a y-pipe for them that get rid of the cats. i hope you have a custom tune prepared. because you will need one. i made that mistake already. truck did not run good until i got one

Check out American Racing Headers. They have the headers, y-pipes with or without cats for the 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, and 6.2. They are a little on the pricey side, but the fit and quality of thier products are outstanding! They are #1 for longtubes in my book.

No not yet. There are a few other things I would like to do to the truck before headers. But when it's time I will for sure go with ARH. I have installed ARH headers on a few vehicles though. I have not had a problems at all. The fit is great. The quality of thier products are flawless. I also like the fact that they use merge collectors with scavenger spikes which really helps with scavenging, and the bullet style high flow cats really are high flow cats. They use 200 cell substrate which far outflows other so called high flow cats.

wouldn't true duals be better than merging the collectors?

I was refering to the style of the collectors on each header. The collectors have scavenging spikes which narrow down just after the point where all the primary tubes collect and then flare back out. It creates a venturi effect and helps pull exhaust gases out of the engine. Most headers that I have seen for the trucks use a straight collector, meaning that after the point where the primary tubes collect the rest of the collector is straight. And to answere your question, yes true duals would flow better as long as there is an X-pipe or H-pipe installed. For a near stock truck, true dual exhaust really wont net you much (if any) more performance than a single exhaust. Unless you have substantial engine mods a single 3" or dual 2.25" cat back exhuast will work just fine.
