Front Diff Rebuild Cost

Recommended Posts

My front differential bearings on my '02 Yukon Denali AWD are failing at 136k miles and the local independent shop will only do a replacement with a used diff for $2500. I'd like to find someone to rebuild my unit with new bearings assuming the gears are still ok. For those who've had this done, what is a reasonable rebuild estimate for bearings only and worse case, new gears? It seems like this should be in the $1000 range.

i would shop around, $2500 for a used diff is way to high.. if just the carrier bearings are bad it should be under 1k parts and labor.. GM no longer stocks the AWD front diff any more. if the case is bad, then you'll have to find a re manufactured one. 03-04 SS had a bad issue with bad bearings installed at the plant. most were giving out around 50k miles, mine went out at 190 mi..there re a few CO. that rebuild them just need to search..

good luck

I called the dealer and the parts department confirmed you can't order the full differential but can order any component allowing for a full rebuild. He indicated they rebuild about one per month.

that just goes to show how bad GM made their front diffs... a lot of people who have had them re built with good after market parts, have had no issues with over 100k mi
