A/c Problems (loud Squeal

Went under my truck the other day to take a look at the A/C compressor and see why my A/C would not come on. Found two wire connection one of which I figured was power and the other maybe a low pressure switch?? One had two pin connections the other had 3. Grabbed my meter and checked to see if I was getting voltage at the wire with two pin connections and did not see anything (DC or AC). Gave up and plugged the wires back in. Went into the truck today and tried the A/C and it came on for the first time since I bought the truck back in March. But when the compressor first starts up I hear a loud squeal noise even during A/C operation it will intermittently make the noise. Not sure if it is the compressor, belt, or pully???? Any suggestions? Please Help

Thanks

A squeal is normally a belt slipping. Hard to know for sure what the cause is on here.

He said he hears the loud squeel noise when he puts the A/C on, so obviously noise is isloated to compressor. I would think a bad bearing and compressor will eventially fail if not repaired. I remember having A/C compressors squeel on me with other vehicles I've owned in the past and wasn't long before they failed after noise started. Could very well be you need to have it replaced soon. If you have a warranty then there's nothing for you to worry about as far as cost. Those compressors aren't cheap either. I would imagine at least $600 and higher for a compressor. I always ran my A/C for a little bit in the winter in my vehicles as it is good to run it every now and then. They should be run every once in a while even though you don't need to because there are moving parts that could bind up if left dorment over time.

Your statement is very true, but I was trying to say the spring in it was fatigued. But, you're probably smarter than me, because I never use my air conditioner unless the wife rides with me. I like the windows down, myself.

Thats hot down in GA during summer. I think I would have my A/C quite a bit down there!

Very true, I went outside today to start painting my bumper caps and started to sweat. I had to keep my head wiped off so I wouldn't buger up the paint job.

I have family that lives in GA down in the southern part of the state on an island. And at night there is so many insects that hang around the doors and windows cause they are attracted to the lights and if you open up either, they bum rush you into the house. That would drive me crazy! Some insect zapper's would come in very very handy there. I really like the spanish moss in GA, how it hangs off the trees.

compressor is seized, un plug it for now that will put a crapload of drag on the belt. you can get them to drain and re-fill the frion(spelling) sometimes that will work but its a risk cuz that stuff is pricy.

I had a concern about my A/C last year and had it looked out. They determined that their might be a possible leak and when they hooked up the machine that fills the unit with the freon and dye, my compressor took quite a bit of it. They wanted me to come back in a couple weeks so they could inspect for leaks. So I came back at that time and they used their special light and found no evidence of a leak. So I came back 2 weeks later, and still no evidence of a leak. During this entire time, I was never charged for the freon they put in or the dye. Not sure how your local repair shop would handle this, but if all the repair shops performed leaking tests this way..Meaning - Fill A/C compressor back up with freon and dye and do not charge customer until leak is found, then this would be some kind of loop hole where the consumer can get a free refrill of freon.

    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
    • So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
    • Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.
    • That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.
    • I wonder kind of nuts and bolts they will come up with next? Jim
