4.3l Intake Manifold Question

4.3L '03 Silv.

Intake manifold gasket replacement.

Bought the Fel-Pro PermaDry Plus gaskets.

Their brief instruction writeup says:

"for this application removal of the valve covers is necessary to perform a lower intake manifold gasket repair"
?

Can anybody with experience confirm or deny this?

(Would like to save myself the extra steps if at all possible.)

When I replaced my knock sensors, I didn't take my valve covers off. 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 are all the same engines, so I don't THINK you would have to remove the valve covers.

I would not think so either (the Chev service manual doesn't mention valve cover removal), but I'm wondering if there is something specific to the PermaDry Plus gaskets that necessitates their removal?

The 4.3L is based on the "LT" 265 - 350 SB and has NO comparison to the "LS" 4.8,5.3 & 6.0L engines and no parts are compatable. Answering the question about removing the VC and the answer is no the intake can be removed.

Oh, thanks for correcting me, I thought he said 4.8l.

Not sure on the 4.3 but at least (1) of the valve covers needs to be removed on the Vortec 305/350 for the lower intake to clear when removing.

Finally did the lower intake manifold.

It was a bear. Not such much difficult, but very involved.

Per O.T., to answer my own question: As I and others here suspected, valve covers do not have to be removed.

(Don't know why FelPro says otherwise)
