Drl Disable Issue

I pulled the #31 & #33 fuses to disable the DRLs today. However, I noticed that when I used the remote to lock the doors, the horn no longer honks when the lock button is pressed twice.

Is this normal?

Hmmm...does the horn still work normally? Mine works even with the DRL fuses out.

Ck the DIC, there's a setting for the honk function...just make sure its enabled.

Why in the world do you want to disable DRL? Your safer with it working and so are other motorists, bikers, motorcyclists and pedestrians.

most places their required by law..i believe if you look thru DOT regulations you will probably find it. if they were not required, then all vehicle manufacture's would save millions on not installing them..

i replaced my DRL's with Sylvania amber long life bulbs in Aug. 03 a week after i bought my truck new. have 53,000 and have not had to replace a bulb yet.. i know a lot of people have had there DRL's burn out (passenger side) what i found is replace them with bulbs rated at 16V. most if not all charging systems put out 14+ volts. most cheep bulbs can just about handle 12V at best. the ones i have are rated at 16V. so i guess Sylvania is lost money on me...

pretty sure they're not "mandatory" except in Canada. Are they a good idea? Sure, why not. I'm sure you can Google all sorts of studies that will show both sides of the story. My argument...to each his/her own.

I chose to pull my fuses when I installed my projector HIDs so they're not on 100% of the time, and am currently working an electrical solution using the highs as my DRLs and flash to pass until the projectors are lit up. Or I'll just wire up my front parking lamps to run as the DRLs. Oh wait, illegal in some states? Nope, thats only driving with parking lamps when headlamps are required

Redvett is one of the few people on this forum who is older than me. He also spent 37 years as an engineer with the GM truck group...so I would imagine he is aware of HIDs and many other things as well....

is it fuses 31/33 or 32/34???? Maybe that has something to do with it...

I only pulled one fuse and have had no issues at all. I can't tell you off the top of my head which one though. I just looked it up in the manual for the underhood fuse box. It says DRL's right below the number in the book. Different years could different though.

I would say double check which one or one's are right to which one or one's you pulled out. I now how easy it is to grab the wrong one.

So I guess this truck is now a death trap, and all pre-'96 GM trucks were deaths traps for the driver and other drivers on the road because the head lights are not on at all times.

Driving 60 in a 55 is against the law too because it is a hazard to other motorists, I bet you have done that before.

No on a motorcycle, you better believe that headlight is on at all times.

After playing around with the fuses, I discovered that I have to leave one of them in for the horn to still work when remotely locking. I checked the auto-headlights, and they still work great.

very strange...wonder if there is a difference between 07 and 10 in terms of the wiring. Did the horn work normally with those two fuses pulled? Now I am very curious to know what the deal was...
