GMGuy84 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I was just curious why my 05 Silverado 1500 Z71 has drum brakes in the rear and 2 guys that I work with have 4 wheel disc brakes. They both have Silverados but one is a 2002 and the other is a 2000. Any thoughts?
bluegmctruck Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 GM was having problems with the rear disc so they switched back to drum in 05 i believe.
jblakeney Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Probably the same guy that thought no drain plug on the transmission pan and radiator, also said drum brakes are cheaper to produce.... SO they put them blasted drums back on... I HATE SPRINGS AND NAILS AND BARS and a couple other things I try to white wash from my brain in between working on Drum brakes....... I WANT DRAIN PLUGS!!!!!!! NO drain is BS. The radiator was the last straw..... COMPLETELY STUPID... Jbo

I think I made a thread about it and the consensus was that those plugs used to strip and GM probably wants you to change the filter with the oil. You could buy the plug and put it in yourself or find a wrecked tranny from an older truck with the plug and steal that.
