Front Shocks 2009 2wd

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. Off here for a while, pursuing other interests and fortunately having zero issues with my 2009 Silvy Ext cab 2wd. Except now at 25 K miles the front shocks are giving up the ghost- getting the boing-ing up and down and up and down after just about any significant compression.

Any suggested brands and models of decent quality for replacement shocks? Yes, I did a search and found a whole lot about lifts and adjustables etc, but I'm just looking for replacements that will last maybe 50-75k? Also, I may do the rear at the same time even though it is much less symptomatic at this time.

Thanks

+1.. The 5100's will also level the truck.

Thanks for the input. Again, I'm not looking to raise the front or level it ( I've already shackled the rear and it is level-er, albeit lower  ), I just want some shocks of the same dimensions that will last more than a year.

So is the Bilstein 5100 the most appropriate regardless?

There seems to be some confusion about exactly which part # is for NOT LIFTING, and NOT HD.

One thrtead mentions F4-BE5-E376-H1 but fails to clear it up if this what I might be looking for...

Cant go wrong with the Bilstiens, I like my Monroe Reflexes, and others Like there Sensatracs.

If you have the money, I'd go with the Bilsteins,.... but if you want something economical, then the Monroe are a good choice too. I've had good luck with them in the past.

Thanks guys. What catches my eye is that on their page-

http://www.bilsteinus.com/cart/ymm.php?yea...+1500&zenid=

there is mention of "lifted performance" on both the first two front and rear shocks. The front as I understand it is adjustable 0-2.5" , but the rear is the last thing I want to lift.... so hopefully neither would ( and if not set to "0" on the front ones). I dont' want to lift jack.

The other three are labeled as "heavy duty" but come up as replacement for a 1500. Hopefully their definition of HD is not he same as GMs (ie 2500 or the old HD 1500)

So would y'all be suggesting the E377-HO and E377- H1's then?? Something about HD sticks in my craw- this is a light duty street truck with rarely more than 600# of cargo total.

Thanks again, annd FYI and FWIW- this forum is Sooo much more friendly than the (anal) mountain bike forum that I'm on alot as of late.....think the spandex has cut off the circulation to their brains....

I run the Bilstien HD (yellow ones) on my 1500 GMC sub. On my 09 1500 Sierra I run the Bils 5100s for the front lift. You should be able to get the HDs for less & they will be just fine. Both are firm and add contol with out being too harsh. The HDs are for 1500s and up...same with 5100s.

If I was not wanting to lift the front of my 1500 Sierra just a touch I would have put the HDs on it.

Unfortunately I don't have an answer on the shocks, but I was wondering what type of tires you are running on your truck, downsized? I am going to have to buy tires soon, and haven't made my mind up yet on which brand of 20" tires to get.

first at 25000 mi. i would be back at the dealer demanding new ones...if not than go with the Bilstiens.

also while your at it, change out your stabilizer end bushing with some Energy suspension parts.. will take a hole bunch of roll out of the front..nice up grade for under $20.00

Probably a dumb question (okay, definitely a dumb question), but will the Bilstein 5100 rears (Part #BS-F4-BE5-E377-H0) work on a Z71 4x4? It says they can accomodate up to a 1" lift, but doesn't the Z71 come with 1.25" blocks?

For the Bilsteins:

5100 series:

F4BE5E376-H1 will either level out the front up to 1.75 inches or maintain the stock height. The are running 98.41 each on shockwarehouse.com with free shipping

F4BE5E377-H0 is the stock height to up to 1 inch of lift rear shcok. (the z71 and the z85 both have the same rear blocks) for 75.70 each free ship

F4BE5B514-h0 is the shock for 3-4 inches of lift. 75.70 free shipping

The HD series

F4-BE5-D971-H1 is the stock height non leveling front shock. 75.70 each free ship

F4-BE5-E011-H0 is the stock height rear shock for 68.14 free ship

I run the HD front shocks and they are so much better that the originals. Don't be scared by the HD designation, they are not for the chevy HD, this is what Bilstein designates their name as compared to the stock versions. The ride is wonderful. I run the 5100 series rear shock because of an add a leaf that i have in. They are also great.

shockwarehouse has a deal right now on the Bilsteins for 15 percent off the price with free shipping. Hope this helps you guys out.

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
