Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to run the wire for my amp. Where is the best place to bring it through the firewall??

I am trying to think of everything before I tear my truck apart.

If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks!!

I had a hellavu time finding a place and settled on running it through a grommet on the drivers side.

I think it has a cluster of wires also coming thru and it was difficult getting it through there also.

I finally got it and alls well, however, the Rockford Fosgate amp kit that i got is a POS, not really the wires or anything, but the enclosure that holds the fuse has already cracked where you screw it together.

I guess the plastic cant handle the underhood heat or sompin.

Ima have to splice in a better quality fuse box, any recommendations?

Usually the best place to come through is on the side the battery is.  If you can fit it in the hole that is already there, go for it, then run it down that side to the back.  If not, just drill a hole where you wont be able to see it sitting in the seats.

How big is the power wire you're using?

Stinger makes great accessories.

I have a suggestion for running wires through rubber grommets. Use rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) as a lubricate. It works like a charm and after it drys it doesn't leave any oily residue.

I ran my 4 gauge amp wire through the large grommet on the drivers side firewall.  It has a large wire harness running through it.  I slit the grommet and used a coat hanger to pull the wire through it.  Can get pictures if you want.

I ran my power wire thru the small grommet that is above the main wire harness grommet the others are talking about.  The grommet and hole I used looks like it is for the hood release cable or something like that.  I tried to get the power wire thru the large wire bundle like others have, but never got it to work.  So, I just moved up a couple of inches to the smaller grommet.  It went thru easily once a hole was made.  I then resealed around the hole in the grommet with epoxy to maintain weather proofing.  I didn't overdo the epoxy, so the wire and grommet are still flexible.

I am only running 8 gauge, so I am hoping I won't have a problem running it through the main grommet. We will find out next week!!

Thank You Everone who replied!

If anyone thinks of anything else, please let me know, all info is appreciated!!

Why we are on the same subject...Do the sill covers just pop off/ held by clips??   How about the kick panels too??  Just curious before I break something. Anyone with some pics or info? :flag:

Kick panels just pop off at the clips.

Pretty much everything pops off as the parts are held in by clips.  Be carefull, however, when reinstalling the parts.  You have to align them carefully so the clips and plastic guides that are on the parts match up with their holes.  Otherwise you'll break off clips or guides or crack the part.....I speak from experience.

Thanks for input guys!!   Still looking for a non intrusive sub enclosure and some rear cab amp mounting ideas (against the back wall)   I like to do some lengthy research before diving in! :flag:
