Amsoil Oil Filter Leak

Did an oil change and other work today and as i was backing up my father said something is dripping. I shut the engine off and got out and under the truck and oil was dripping off the filter. This is a Eao032. I was able to tighten it up a bit more and then went for a quick drive. When I got back home i again went under and saw it drip. I have a pan under it now to see how much comes out. Has anyone had this issure with a Amsoil or any filter before. The filter I removed was the same part number and l had no issues with that one. For the cost of the oil and filter I would expect the best.

Did the old gasket from the previous filter stay on the mounting surface, thereby giving you the dreaded double gasket?

An amsoil filter is no better than an average filter like a napa gold or ac delco. Just throwing that out there, the oil is great but the filter is the same as a mobil or a K&N. But, it is possible that the filter can be leaking around the seam, but I've only seen mobils and frams do that. So.......how much oil has leaked out so far?

So your saying that Napa Gold and AC Delco oil filters have a synthetic nano-fiber medium and rated to go 25,000 miles?

From reading posts here it sounds like i shouldn't be paying for that filter then. I would guestimate 1/4 cup. Enough to leave a trail as i backed up. I just took a look now and it looks like it is not dripping. Could this only happen when the engine is running?

Well, the good thing is after you let it sit overnight you should be able to remove it with out much oil loss (or so I'm told). And then replace it with another Amsoil filter or another brand filter if you don't have a spare Amsoil.

That 25,000 miles is just marketing. Any filter will last 25,000 miles except fram, of course. But oil won't last but 15,000 miles tops, so why would you need to have a filter that can last 25,000 miles. But, as far as filters go, everybody who knows about filters knows that as far as filtering capability, you can't beat a purolator pureone. And, yes Mobil and K&N both have synthetic media, but that really doesn't mean anything and is thus another marketing ploy.

I'm betting something got under the gasket. You might be able to spin it off carefully and have a look. AMSOIL stuff is typically top notch, but I'm sure they also have an occasional product issue.

If you’re running full synthetic why not change out your filter anyway when you do your oil changes. Oil filters don’t cost that much. Think of it this way what is cheaper to replace the oil filter or the engine.

Wix Gold is synthetic media also.....

Amsoil does not produce oil filters........ Somebody makes them for them to sell under there own brand...... I have been selling oil filters for quite the lengthy period. In that time I have seen a host of things cause oil leaks on oil filters. Including a leaf.... Hung on the seal on an oil filter.... All the way down to the "Dreaded Double gasket" as mentioned above. But I have also seen filters that leaked from the rolled seam. And my personal favorite OVER TIGHTENED. Spin it up when the filter gasket/seal hits the mating surface on the oil filter adapter turn 3/4 turn, that is enough. The seal will expand when warm.

Either way..... Get somebody to crank the truck. You lay under it.....Have them rev the engine up, not over revved up 1500 or so..... The leak will become apparent when it pressures up... Remember safety first goggles or glasses....

And my all time best ever one was, some id10t did not take the d@#$ plastic rapper off.... Total waste of my day, I had to drive out to my customers house and look.....

An amsoil filter costs a grave fortune. I use napa gold, and I'm pretty sure they filter just as good as a amsoil/donaldson. If they don't, then they filter plenty good enough for any engine as engines have lasted 500,000 miles on just regular oil and fram filters.

No such filter as a Wix gold. Its NAPA Gold which is a Wix filter in NAPA trim. Wix filters are NOT synthetic media, few filters besides the Amsoil EAO are. Sure some claim synthetic media but when you read the fine print is some kind of blend and not 100%.

Amsoil EAO oil filters use 100% synthetic media licensed exclusively to them by the Donaldson Corp who holds the patten on nano-fiver technology. Its true that AMSOIL does not make their own filters, Wix make most of them, Donaldson makes some as well as some as some others. Its a fact that the Amsoil filters are made with the best materials available from any filter manf.

There could be many reasons a filters leaks, it could be defective, it could have been damaged somehow, or its installed wrong such as over tightening with a wrench (never use a wrench to tighten a filter), failure to wipe clean the mounting surface, failing to put oil on the gasket to prevent it from being disturbed during installing.

I have sold 100's of these filters and never had one come back or anyone complain about them, never any leaks. Contact whom you go it from and tell them your problem, they should cover it IMO if the filter is the problem.

PS-If there any any visible damage to an oil filter or if you drop it, never take the chance and put in on a engine.

I have to agree also as I don't believe a wix is synthetic media, but it's just as good. I believe is uses what they call stepped filtration techniques, which goes from larger holes in the media to smaller holes in the media. This design allows the filter to hold more dirt than any other filter on the market, and it will flow good for a long time.

Both Amsoil oil and filter are rated at 25,000 miles so yes you would change both at the same time.
