Hey, I am new to the whole posting stuff up here but have read alot even though I wasn't a member. I have a Chevy Silverado Crew Cab z71 with a rough country 2' leveling kit and a few other mods. Its time for some new tread and I am stuck between the 285/65/18 or the 305/60/18. Anybody running either of these that could help out.

either tire should fit... the 305s will be almost an inch wider though (20mm to be exact. 1" is 25.4) so you might have to do some plastic trimming depending on how they actually measure on the truck.

is there a significant difference in price? If you can save a few bucks, i'd get the 285s which should fit easily with a 2" leveling kit on stock wheels.

I can get the 305 Dick Cepeck FC II for around $240 a tire. The 285 BFG All Terrain will be around $290 or so. That is the price difference. Plus everyone in my area is running BFG's so I wanted to do a little something different. I have seen some good reviews on the Dick Cepecks and I have had the BFG's on a Toyota Tacoma for awhile now and know they are pretty good. Its really just about will the 305's fit with minimal trimming because I don't want to butcher up my truck.

Both tires are about 32.5" tall.

285mm is 11.22" wide

305mm is 12.00" wide

Most member run 275/60/20's on stock wheels with a 2" leveling kit without any rubbing issues or trimming at all.

275/60/20 = 33 x 10.8

285/65/18 = 32.5 x 11.22

305/60/18 = 32.5 x 12.00

However... the 20" OEM wheels may be 8.5" wide (not 100% sure). I do know the 18" wheels are 8" wide with similar backspace... that would help you fit the 305s.

Fitting tires on these trucks is... well... its like making splitting hairs a fine art :dunno:

If i was in your shoes, i'd save $200 and get the 305 cepeks. Might need to trim a bit... but it shouldn't be too significant.

**** BFGs! they look like crap and ive never liked them. Plus you can get some toyo's or nitto's cheaper!

I am pretty sure that I will end up going with the Cepeks. Like u said, if i can save 200 bucks i can trim a tiny bit and be satisfied. Once I get used to adding pics and all that up here I will post some before and after pics. I should be getting them in the next week or so. Thanks for the input and if you think of anything else I am all ears

Anyone know what I will have to trim if I get the 305's instead of the 285's? This is the only thing I am worried about with my whole situation if you know what I mean.

Call me crazy. But way would u wanna pay extra and when u know u will have to cut your truck just to be a inch wider? Go 285s

Well, I really like the look of the Cepeks and I know that I dont want BFGs or Toyos or Nittos cause everywhere u look theres a truck with them on it. Its just hard to see how that 1/2 inch wider will make it rub. I wish someone had the 305's on that i could check out before doing it.

Ive talked to people and went trough what your going through and the all had to cut and were on stock wheels
