Changing Fluids

My 2007 Sierra Denali AWD has 42,000 miles on it. When I took it in for the windshield washer heater recall the service writter sugested that I come back at 50,000 miles and have the transmission, transfer case, front and rear differential fluids all changed. They only drop the transmission pan and replace the filter and refill. The cost estimate is just about $500!! While I see the need for this service, is 50,000 too soon and is $500 too much? Should all the fluid be removed for the transmission?

$500 is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy toooooooooooo damn much, IMO.

is 500 for just the transmission fluid change? if so than you should get almost 5 changes for that. Or is it for all the fluids. Even so that is still a few hundred to much for all the fluids.

 

I got my trans serviced for 125. Thats a new filter and a complete drain with new fluid.

Here's what I would do:

 

Drop about half that money on Amsoil products for the front & rear diffs, trans, & transfer case & spend the afternoon doing it myself. You'll end up with better oil (backed up by testing) at half the cost, that will last twice as long between changes.

 

Just did this 2 weeks ago on mine at 40,200. Yanked the grille, removed the right (facing front of truck) cooler line, placed a bucket under the truck & fired it up, while pouring Amsoil in. Once the 2.5 gallon container was empty, I let it run for a few seconds to empty the pan. I then removed the pan, changed the filter & refilled with more Amsoil from my other 2.5 gallon container. 100% flush complete, right in my driveway.
