Hypertech Programing Question

I have a 2001 chevy silverado with a 4.8L. I wanted to take the speed limiter off of it and add a little power so I bought a hypertech programer. My question would be is on this programer is it has the option to set the rpm limiter to whatever you want. I want the most from my engine but I don't want to give it too much causing damage. What would be the ideal rpm max

Well, I suppose congrats on the programmer but I can't say it added alot of power for me when I had my 03. Unfortunately HP is one that has the most conservative tune.

 

Setting I used that seemed to work well.

Set for the Performance tune and run 92-93 octane

RPM limiter set to 5900

Speed limiter set to 120mph

Shift pressure higher

Shift points.

+2 1-2 shift

+5 2-3 shift

+7 3-4 shift

 

I think thats it..

I did +3 +10 +5 at 6100 RPM. At the moment I like my Hypertech tune better than my HP Tuner tune. The HP Tuner has a ton more you can change but help from the forum and staff is hopeless for beginners.

Thanks for the help. I see a def increase in acceleration. Next question would be if I should stick with the Supper 44 flowmaster one inlet\two outlet, or should I go with a Magnaflow same set up. How much more power would I honestly get if i were to just start it over and give it a "true dual" system? Truck already came with the one inlet\two outlet Flo.

My 03 5.3 hated flowmaster. I got worse mileage, drone and it rusted out in under 2-1/2 years. I installed Magnaflow and picked up mileage/hp and it was all stainless steel for right at $450.

Steven gave you a good selection to start with. Hope your happy with the unit. It wont eliminate the top speed but you can raise it to meet the speed rating of your tires.

Just don't go above your tires speed rating.

Hypertech Econ will not help if you are running larger tires. We programmed 03 5.3. It was getting 16 highway. reprogrammed it got 19. Installed 35" MT Baja Claws. dropped back to 16 and is very underpowered. Get 17 with it deprogrammed. Also have had a check engine light on ever since for knock sensor. Clear code, comes back. Hypertech service says bad sensor. B.S.! Deprogrammed it never sets a code!

Now have it DEprogrammed. Because it gets better mileage and 1/8 mile time is a FULL second faster.

The Econ Max Energy only does tuning and reads and clears DTC's. The Econ does not address the tire size at all, you would need the full Max Energy for that.

If you ever decide to change your gear ratio, the Hypertech programmer will probably give you a false ABS code as well. I know it did with my 05 Sierra when I switched to 3.73 from 3.42 and the guy at Auto zone broke open a brand new ABS tool to check and he got no code but the Hypertech kept giving the code. I never get it with my Superchips programmer.
