LOSING COOLANT (FULL RESEVIOR EVERY THERE WEEKS)

BLUEISH PUFF OF SMOKE ON COLD STARTS

SLUGDE WHEN I CHANGED THE OIL

Hi, I got a 05 silverado 5.3 and i am losing a lot of coolant with no sign of leakage at all. On top of that almost every morning i get a blueish puff of smoke when i start it and when i changed the oil there was a good amount of slugde(first time ever seeing that so i just thought maybe it was low grade oil or something). After doing some reading on this site it looks like all these can be related and it could have something to do with the heads. I have taken it to the dealer twice and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it (of course they don't realy get in there and take anything apart to look around). I only have a warranty for three more months so if anybody has any thoughts it would help a lot. THANKS!!!!!!!

You would need to check to see if you have the Castech heads that were prone to cracking and leaking coolant. I would think the dealer would check that, but you never know. The TSB was posted on this site that included pictures of how to idenitify the heads and what to look for, but the mods have removed all the pictures per GM request .

Here is the basic TSB:

You can also have your oil tested for traces of coolant.
