Diy Fog Lights

I covered the holes where the tow hooks were (taken off for a 3" body lift). I got these from Advanced Auto Parts. Pretty easy install.

They're not very bright but cover the two holes, my intent. Not bad for $25

Mounted the toggle here

your right, doenst look bad. i tore a set out of a 2006 silverado. previous owner had them behind the grille. not effective. i do like your setup, but id prefer the oem ones anyday. but you did it right. looks clean. congrats on the new mod

Thanks for the replies. I really wanted the oem lights, but not in my budget right now. I did a search for some options, but didn't yield what I was looking for. Hope this helps the next guy for a low cost option.

These are the Baja lights off the shelf. The covers are kinda neat, but I left em off. I primed and painted over the baja logo

I really like them. Cheaper than the OEM Fogs and they don't look out of place because of where they are mounted. Id say screw the OEM Fogs and keep those. :fingersx:

Looks good....Did you make your own mounts or did the lights come with ones that worked?

Each are a single mount bolt that swivels. I drilled a whole through the plastic shroud and made a 4"H x 2"W bracket out of some thin steel strapping i had laying around on the other side of the plastic.

I'd say they were plug n play, just added the bracket for extra support on the back side, they won't budge.

Wow, really good job! :fingersx:

How did you cut the hole for the toggle switch (tools?)

I'm thinking thats how I'm going to mount a cargo light switch!

I put a 4" x 2" strip of blue painter's tape on the face of the the panel, then outlined a rectangle just a hair smaller that would allow the switch to fit. I used a dremel so I drilled pilot holes in each corner inside the rectangle, then dremel'd away....(make sure you look at the back side of the panel, if you notice my switch is a little farther over to the right as you're looking at it, because of what was on the back side of the panel) When I got the raw rectangle cut out, I polished it up with a small file so the switch fit in snug. The switch that was provided had an outer cover that the switch pushed into, so I took it out, tossed the cover and just used the switch. I think it looks more factory that way. The cover looked kinda cheap, motorhome style. Also, I had to cut out a small notch where the switch was hitting the dash and prevented the panel from snapping back on the dash. As far as difficulty, I would rate it as a one wrencher, the switch mount really only took about 10 minutes.

ohh i know those lights, they sell them at wal-mart. my friend has them on his old F-250.. theyre not bright at all but dont look to bad. the covers are really trashy since they say "baja" on them but you did the right thing in painting them

Where did you get the switch at?

The switch was included with the lights. There are similar toggle switches sold individually at Advanced Auto, Autozone or Pep Boys. It's a basic on/off switch. I might try switch it out with one that lights up, no hurry though.

OK Thanks. I might do this mod since Ive been looking for extra lights, and I never use my tow hooks anyhow.

There's some steel strips at Lowe's that have pre drilled 10-15mm holes, they come in strips of around 3 or 4 feet, 2" wide and about 1 to 1.5mm thick, so they're fairly easy to bend, but sturdy when bent the way you want em. I cut mine to size to make support brackets on the back side of the lower bumper plastic where the tow hooks are. Oh, and I put 3 washers on the mounting bolt to push the lights out flush with the edge of the bumper.
