Whats Your 2500hd Gas Mileage

Now I know that when we buy a 3/4 ton truck we're not looking for great gas mileage. But we have a lot of talk on here about pushing out 1/2 ton trucks to the limit towing because we don't want to drive a gas guzzler around on the highway every day. One thing that has had me thinking I know two different people that drive the Dodge 2500 diesels. One has turbo charge stuff, and they are both ext. cabs. They are also both several years old. But they also both claim to get 18-20 miles per gallon. Does that even make since? I have drive pretty darn careful to squeeze 19 to the gallon out of a tank of gas on my 5.3 1500. I just wonder if what they are saying is true...

Yeah, thats more like what I would expect. 10-16 range. It always throws me off when somebody tells me they're getting 18-20 out of their 3/4 ton. Even if it is diesel I don't think it would put it up there that high.

I recently got a 2010 HD2500 CC with the 6.0 and 3.73 gear. I have roughly 1200 miles on it. Going by the DIC, I have been seeing between 15 adn 16.1 MPG. Of course this depends on my driving habits at the time and road conditions. Prior to that I had a 02 HD2500 CC with a 6.0 and 4.10 gears. The best I think I seen with that was just over 12 MPG. Prior to selling it, I added a Corsa cat back exhaust and Airaid MIT. The mileage with these 2 changes and running Michelin M/S tires went to just over 14 MPG.

I just sold my 2003 Dodge 4x2 3500 with DRW's. I consistantly averaged 18 mpg in town, all hand calculated. I could get in the 20's on the highway, depending on my speeds. The 03 and 04 Cummins generally get the best mpg, as they have very little emission control and no cat. The 04.5 and up generally do not get as good of mileage as these two years of the cummins. What a shock it is to be driving an 8.1 now!

I have a 2008 2500HD CC 4x4 with the 6.0 and I get 18.7l/100 km which is about 12.5 US MPG according to the conversion tables online. That is based on my DIC with 34,000kms on the truck. Nect fill up I am going to reset the fuel and mileage on the DIC (if possible) to get a more current number. I know that I have increased the mileage from about 11 MPG to 12.5 in the last year (or it dropped from 20l/100km). About half of the trucks mileage is highway, the other half city, short distance stuff. There are times I do haul a 9500lbs 5th wheel for personal use and a smaller 14" enclosed trailer for scouting.

Your talking about 2 different animals here. There have been people on here with D-Max's who have gotten up to 23 MPG on the highway (55 MPH and before they and the rest of the auto makers stuffed those diesel exhaust filters and Urea injection crap in. (Dodge, Ford, and GM all have them in their Diesels now)

Thus far I've gotten 20 MPG on the highway (non-towing) and average about 14 MPG city with my D-Max. Seems that the fuel economy is improving slightly as I get more miles on her.

Now with the Regular gas engines, yes the fuel economy is going to SUCK towing or not.

hmm, so basically a HD diesel will get a lot better than a gas engine. Diesel fuel always costs at least a little more though...I wonder if it would end up you spending about the same on fuel costs?

Yes for the most part, if you are keeping the truck forever and use it to haul......fuel costs will be the same or even better with the diesel. That being said, diesel repairs are normally much more expensive....when they break....$$$$. The only down side that I can say would make a difference is this: depending on where you live....do the gas stations there carry diesel fuel? Where I am there are 4 stations within a mile....they all have between 8 and 12 pumps, BUT, they all only have 1 or 2 actual diesel pumps.....mind you this is in a city so....look around at your local stations and see if they have the fuel you are looking at getting.

Oh yeah out here you can get diesel fuel all over.

It's a little annoying to think that I have to squeeze to get 18 or 19 mpg out of my 5.3 when I could also be getting 18-20 and driving an awesome powerful 6.6 turbo diesel!!! Oh well, I guess just a little truck envy again. My two horse trailer just weighs about 4,500-5,000 pounds so I really don't need all that power I guess...

i get about 13mpg. bought my truck a few months ago and could have got a dmax for about 10 grand more. i did the calculation and i would have to drive that diesel 250,000 miles to make up that 10 grand in the gas mileage it saves. needless to say i love my 6.0L
