With all the love it and hate it opinions of the 03’ Silverado I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to try posting a poll.  Which is your favorite face used on the Chevrolet pickup between 1981 and 2003?

:(

had to go with the 94-98(what I got on mine). Its simple, looks great, and no controversy, everybody likes it a little. plus it ages very well

1994-1998 C/K.  Probably the second best looking Chevy trucks ever made.  I never really liked the 90-93 front ends, but I do like the 88-89 with four individual headlights.

Well, I have to say the 2001/2002 HD’s look very aggressive and possesses the best Chevrolet face in more than decade which is why it got my vote…..But my second choice by a close margin would have to be the 85’ through 87’. My ultimate dream truck would be a 1987 K30 with a TBI 454, SM465 4 speed manual, NP 205, Dana 60 solid front axle in two tone brown with tan interior. I can just imagine it now…6” lift, sitting on 36” Swampers, 4:56 gears with the pigs filled with Detroit’s front and rear…aaawwe…that would be cool.

In my honest opinion, 1987 is the last year GM really built trucks for guys that use trucks for something other than a status symbol. Since then, GM has been building trucks for soft palm flitboys that should really be driving cars or S-10 ZR2’s.   Yeah,  I like the remote keyless entry, power seats, electric mirrors, and all that jazz in my 01’ HD but it just doesn’t feel like it can take a licken’ like an old SFA truck.

Since I was too young to buy a new rig in 1987 and will probably never find a used one, I guess I will have to settle on turning my ole 78’ K10 into this concoction one piece at a time except for the brown paint.  Why brown? I dunno, it just looked good on the 80's trucks rather than the usual red, white, black, tan or dark blue.

As you probably know Larry, you won't get an arguement on that from me.  Only thing I have to add is that there should have been some mention of Autocrap or push-button 4wd somewhere in there.  LOL  I honestly believe that the K30's were the toughest pickups GM had made to this date (and probably ever will).  Sure they don't have the power of todays trucks, or all the fancy options, but those things are dang near indestructable.  Heck, the 73-87 GM pickups are the most popular pickups for farmers in this area.  I rarely see an IFS pickup used for farm work around here, most of the GM guys have switched over to Ford/PSD's with their new trucks.

But I still think the last of the C/K's were the best looking trucks in this category.....

Tough vote for this one, I'm with Tom, like the 90 - 93 grill cause it's simple, but the 88-89 headlights were unique in there own way as well.

It was a tough choice, but the grille of the '94-'98 edged out the '87 R/V pickups.  I love both in their own ways.  I just think that the last body style looked the best in extended cab form and the '87 were the best looking regular cab pickups.  I loved the bucket seats in the '94.  Only gripe is that they didn't have lumbar support.  Never really found the bench seats in the '87 and older very comfortable.

i went 94-98

I loved the 98s and when i was graduating hs in 1998 i wanted a 98 ext cab Z71 so BADDDDD.  Then in 99 they switched.  I like em but for some reason those front ends were the best

I had no idea there were so many variations!! You should be on Jeopardy and just keep buzzing in for "GM Truck Grills"! ;)

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
