Xm Radio Swap Out

Here's the story, have a 08 silverado from the US with xm that dealer paid for a lifetime subscription for me. I'm just looking at a 2011 gmc slt, I would like to transfer that xm to my canada truck but they would do that. Is there any way to change that module out of the old truck and put it in the new truck to retain my Xm? can it be done and still work? The radios will be different in both trucks, new one with navi the old one does not.

1. Get the XM ID from your old truck

2. Get the XM ID from your new truck

3. Call XM and tell them you want to transfer the subscription from your old truck to the new truck (give them the XM ID's)

4. Pay the transfer fee

5. Done.

The xm module is seperate from the radio. Check with the dealer to see if they can swap the xm modules. It may require a BCM relearn.

The module is located above the glovebox. If you open the glovebox, I think it's just a catch you press, and it will flop down. Module is right there.

I don't know if the XM module is VIN locked like the radio. If it is, then you'd need to get a BCM relearn (like when you swap radios).

You may just be able to swap the two modules. That would be quick and easy to do.

reading a few things about this, it is probably locked and even BCM relearn will not work, wonder if anyone has tried this? doing some more digging. thanks for replies.

Just a thought. Did you try to get the dealer of the new truck to pay for a lifetime subscription?

Would be nice if the dealer did that for me, but he let me walk out the door as we were 1250 bucks apart, guess he didn't want the sale on a 50 grand truck. so still looking
