My mutual fund is really lacking so I was going to move it to my 401-k.  Anyone know of any good stock tips, or better yet any good resources online?

I could use some help too...  I've lost a "truckload" of cash since the election!!!!  My mutuals are flat and my GE stock is down 20% or better.  However, at current prices I'm picking up a couple of extra shares of it every week so when it takes off again (and it will) I'll be setting well!!!

Shaners - your dollar cost averaging with your GE will help you out in the long run.  Yeah its down, but you are picking up more all the time at lower cost.  Kania, I have some Fidelity and Vanguard Funds that are doing ok comparitively speaking.  Where is your 401K now?  Dont be looking at true stocks...Stick with mutuals.  At your age you should be in agressive funds...maybe for the time being you shouldnt move it but balance it more towards bonds for a little more stability....general rule- stocks down bonds up and vice versus....

GENERAL LEGAL DISCLAIMER>>>>> THE ABOVE POST IS IN NO WAY MEANT TO READ LIKE IT CAME FROM A SANE AND COMPETENT INVESTMENT ADVISOR.  IT CAME FROM SOME GUY NAMED "NEWBIEZ71".  ANYBODY FOLLOWING 401K ADVICE FROM A GUY NAMED "NEWBIE" SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO ACTUALLY HAVE ANY MONEY.

I have actually made a few bucks.  I have my 401K spread out so far I have no idea what it is all in.  But I do know that I haven't lost any money.  The wife and I are getting into Mutual funds now.

Over the long haul my GE stocks are solid, and have grown exponentially.  Ever since GE tried to by Honnywell the stock got soft due to the questions raised by the Feds, and most importantly the EU (European Union).  Since the EU rejected the takeover of Honnywell, which in essence would forbid GE the right to do business in Europe if they continued with the deal,  the stock has stabalized.  The talks aren't complete yet, but I expect GE stock to go from the low ?'s to the mid ?/share price in the next 12 months.

I'm keeping $'s in Mutuals as well and from time to time I switch my investments back and forth to try and sell on highs and buy back on lows...  it's an easy way to make a quick ?-5K if you hit it right.

I do have my 401-k money in a variety of styles.  Mostly agressive, but I have one moderate fund.  I have the money in a Putnam fund right now.  Bought it at 45.?? a share, went up to 95.?? and is now back to 45.??.  So I'm not really losing any money.  I was looking into some GE stock, but with the recent dredging decision, I'm a little skeptical.  I personally think they should drain the Hudson, but who am I to complain.  Can't swim in it without getting a rash, can't drink the water without catching some virus or worse, and can't eat the fish!, DRAIN IT!  LOL!

Kania, were they talking about forcing GE to dredge the Hudson?  Didnt hear anything about it.....cough cough.....for the rest of ya'll..thats ALL we heard about in the Albany NY area for the last year or so....whether the EPA is going to force them to dredge to clean up PCB's or allow them to continue cleaning in the more mild manner they currently are............my Putnam funds STINK.  I have one IRA in them and they dont have too many quality choices and the ones they do have have poorer than average performers.

Newbie and Kania,

I thought the concern over dredging the Hudson would be that it would release too many PCB's that are in the river bottom.  You're from around there so you'd know more, but I thought they were going to continue with things the way they were.

I don't feel GE can be held totally responsable because the polution happened before there were any regulations.  Yes I agree it is a bad situation, and GE is working on it.  Either way they are a strong, well diversified company,  with more cash than they know what to do with.  Their (my) pension funds are so strong that they pay all their retirees with interest and never even have to touch the principle (unheard of these days).

Are you guys familiar with a company called, Krispy Kreme?  I've been watching them for almost a year, and am seriously thinking about purchasing some stock.  I've heard several people say that KK is planning to become a world wide large distributor with many stores.  Shares are at $.40 or so I've seen...

I've lost alot of mutual fund money too...

Shaners - yes you are correct...they had public debates on whether EPA should force GE to dredge parts of the Hudson to remove the reamaining PCB's.  GE is currently removing them by digging UNDER the river bed and sucking them downward .  The dredging obviously does the exact opposite.  Removes them in the mud/sludge they take out.  But now they have to truck the sludge and dump it somewhaere else.  Big argument for both sides.  GE says that dredging will only stir it up more and by the time "mother nature" cleans that up they would have done the same thing by doing it the way they are.  Debates are over and I believe the EPA is going to announce their decision sometime this fall.  Rightly or wrongly GE takes the heat because everyone feels they are the big bad guy and you cant trust what they say and that they are going to do what is financially beneficial for them not whats good for the environment.

as for the Krispy Kreme stock.... I assume you are talking about the donut company.  I am sure plenty of folks have made a killing on donuts but I am not sure I want my retirement money in it!! At $.40 it sounds like a penny stock.........the plan to retire early on donut stock has holes in it......dont want to sugar coat the issue...

sorry again.

Krispy Kreme was voted #1 donut by citizens and police depts. everywhere!!!  At .40/share that might be a good company to throw a few grand at for the kids...

It may very well be and I dont mean to insult Pastmaster in any way!  It would probably be a GREAT place to do exactly what you said....I was thinking more of the money I have to retire on specifically....please forgive me Pastmaster...the last thing us Niskayuna NY guys need is anybody else mad at us!!!
