6.0 Vs. 8.1

ok, Im looking to do an engine swap in my 03 GMC Sierra. Money is not a problem, And I plan on doing the swap myself. I am curious what you all have to say about which will be better for the time and money. The whole reason for the swap is to gain as much HP for as little cost (even though money really isnt a problem, I would like to keep it under 10k lol) If I put the 6.0 I plan on puting a vortech supercharger on it with a cam as well. But, if I put the 8.1 I havent really done much looking to see what all aftermarkets are avalible as far as engine upgrades. I know I can get a turbo kit from www.turbo-trucks.com. But, im not able to find a supercharger. If anyone can tell me which is the better value for the money, and if anyone can tell me where I can find a cam, and possibly a supercharger for the engine, that would be great! thank you to anyone who can be of assistance!!

I would think the 6.0 would be a better swap since it would be a direct boltup. Plus you have MANY aftermarket "go" parts. Don't forget you'll need to address the transmission too.

the problem with the dmax swap is...there is ALOT of work to the diesel swap...fuel tank, fuel lines, engine, turbo piping(which im probobly going to be doing anyway  ) and plus the cost of diesel is WAAAYYYY expensive...because I did consider that, and looked into it, and decided it would be easyer to just swap a better gasoline engine in. but, thanks for your imput!

if 10k is your limit get a dmax, you can pick one up for like 6k :nono:

I just found out how right you are, I went to the place I plan on getting the engine, and found out that not only is the 8.1 about $1000 more than the 6.0, but its also not to much shy of being about the same power rating...and when I get finished it will blow any stock 8.1 out of the water ;-)

ther are supercharger kits for the 8.1. i bilieve it was magnuson.. also comp cams make 3 or 4 different cam models for the 8.1.. you can also check raylar thats all they do is 8.1,s.. drive a 6.0 truck and the jump in an 8.1 vehicle, its not hard to decide after the drive. in my opinoin the 6.0 will feel similar to a 5.3, the 8.1 is a whole different animal..220 ft lbs of torque at idle :nono:

i have an 04 8.1 almost complete you could have pretty cheap.

theres also another company that does the marine 8.1 you could check there. just remember the 8.1 bolts right to a 4l80e just like the 6.0 does

How the hell can you say the 8.1 is junk! are you kidding dude?

it uses fuel because it makes the power and torque guys depend on.. some of us need real trucks..not little toy 5.3,s

if you notice in all the aftermarket world with all the stokers being made know one uses the 8.1 block ;)

ive also considered building a 383 stoker :D but idk if I want to put that much time into a build lol but Im sure that would probably be the best bang for the buck...plus some form of forced induction would help...ALOT lol give me all your thoughts on this please and thankyou

just build a 6.0 lq9 or lq4 to 370ci or leave stock throw some stock l92 heads stock ls3 intake and 90mm TB on it and a ls6 cam and u will have a ton of torq and power much more then a sbc 383ci
