I bought a 2005 silverado Z71 this summer after my 2006 grand prix was totalled. Not planning on doing anything to the truck, my motivation for joining was to research a solution to why i hear squeaking when I turn the wheel left.

The truck as I bought it, 88k miles, all options, clean as anything on the road.

Here's pictures of my old grand prix. I really loved that car and will someday get another one to make fast.

And the day the performance parts came in the mail this happened.

Welcome aboard. Is your noise coming from the column? Lots of interesting noises from those columns...

I haven't checked out the squeak too much. Been googling it, but nothing common is coming up for me. It sounds like a belt slipping, but I found a spot today that I can rock the wheel back and forth slightly and it consistently makes the noise like a bearing. Hopefully I can find a clue that'll lead me to the culprit.

These trucks are NOTORIOUS for idler pulley and squeaking belt issues. Even a perfect looking belt can be a problem. Take a spray bottle of plain water and spray it on the belt while you have somebody turn the wheel slightly. It may make the noise go away. If so... you need a belt. Very common.

Thanks. I'll try to remember that. Part of my problem is that it's inconsistent. sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't, but when it does it's always when the wheels are turned left (whether driving or just sitting still).

Welcome to GMT.

There must be more damage than what can be seen. I wouldn't think that would be totaled, but I could be wrong.

I agree with Zembonez on the belt issue. Let us know what you find out.

Accident happened while I was cruising 40-45 mph (speed limit) on a sorta back road. Lady on one of the crossroads ran her stop sign but my A-pillar was blocking my view until she was right in front of me. I knew right then it was totalled, the engine had dropped about 4 inches, damage on all the body panels from the passenger front to the driver's rear. Airbags deployed and the fire department had to use the jaws of life to open my hood and cut the battery. Other driver was dazed and went off the road into a tree, serves her right though for not having insurance.

As for my name, I just use it for everything since it's my gamertag. Don't own one (yet).

Sorry about your car. Welcome to the site! I have been able to find a lot of help here. We do go off topic quite a bit, but someone usually can answer your questions. Good luck with the noise.
