Rear Diff Condensation?

Recommended Posts

Ok awhile back i was trying to explain this.  Well today i got a pic.  There is like condesation around my rear diff.  Fluid level is fine (checked today).  Look to the left of the rear diff cover by the bolts.

Let me know what you think (i think its just the heat)

Sorry Ryan, but I don't see what you are describing.  Everything looks pretty good to me...

you cant see where part of the pumpkin looks wet and part looks dry??

OK, I see it now!!!  Around the bottom of the cover on the outside of the bolt circle.  I don't know what it is, but it doesn't look too serious.

Mine does that too Ryan.  No big deal.  Tiny amounts of fluid can leach out through the gasket/seal and stain the outside of the case.  As long as you check the levels occasionally it's not a problem.  I noticed the same thing on the front housing a few weeks ago during an oil change.

Its like it is sweating.  Well i just wanted to post pics cause i mentioned it awhile back and forgot about it till i noticed today.  Im not worried.  Fluid level is the same as last time i checked it

Agree w/ above posts, Ryan nothing serious.  My rule of thumb for getting more serious w/ it is if I see coalesced drops, and/or puddles under it.  :D

Ryan;

No Biggy....But for kicks, check your rear diff lube.  Is it milky?

If you have ever submurged your rear axle for any period of time, it can allow water to enter the 'pumpkin' through the vent.  If you have contaminated your axle juice change it!

I doubt that water would thin it out enough to make it condensate on the outside....but if you have drowned your axle before you may need to drain and refill!
