Anyone Gone To Slotted Rotors?

I am starting to get the rumble out of my front brakes (got 40k on the clock with stock pads and rotors). Pads still have meat on them. Was thinking about aftermarket, slotted, rotors and new pads.

The rumble is odd though. Doesn't happen all the time. :D

Just put new Bridgestone Potenza Dueller H/L s on the truck. Like the tires a lot.

any recommendations/experiences out there? Truck particularts in sig below.

If you just had new tires put on I suspect that the lugnuts were not torqued to the right Lbs. and your rotors need re surfacing. This has happened to me after getting new tires and wheels on previous trucks.

Nice choice of model and color on your truck! :D

Slotted rotors would be kinda cool in my opinion. :D

I had R1 Concepts Premium drilled/slotted rotors, Hawk HPS pads and stainless brakes- loved the set up. We have SSBC Big Bites on the Silverado, with Hawks and stainless lines- great combo as well.

Usually not tighning the lugnuts properly will warp the rotors, and you will feel it on the brake pedal. Can't imagine it would cause the brakes to start grinding. My 2007 with a WT package is doing the same thing for me, and the rotors have been grooved for quite some time now. Took it to the dealer while it was still in warranty, and they didn't seam to be worried by the grooves in my rotors. I also pointed out that I have checked out the condition of rotors on countless vehicles in the parking lots, on all different brand of vehicles, and none of their rotors had grooves. Now I can smell them getting hot when I have to hit them very hard to get stopped. I have never had to replace front break pads on a Chevy before like 50K or 60K, and my pickup only has 35K. I'm guessing they put the cheapest pads they could find on it, since mine is the WT package. I'm also considering replacing the rotors with groved (holes in them) rotors, but I don't want to spend the extra money if it's not really going to help with the heat. Any suggestions?

What are the best type of pads? Metallic or ceramic? Since metallic is more expensive, I'm guessing they are the best. Metallic was always the best years ago, when I did that type of work for a living. I have been out of it for quite some time, so I didn't know if things have changed. Any thoughts?

Any replacement rotor I've purchased has been slotted, drilled style. I love them. They make a nice difference over stock especially while towing. Ceramic pads compliment them too :D

Well, my rotors are clearly grooved. I HAVE heard of issues with OEM rotors.

I guess I'll have to look at getting that done soon. I figure you can't go wrong upgrading brakes and rotors. Stopping is always a good thing when it's required. I apprecaite all of the input.

I am running powerslots and have been quite happy with them. I am running ceramic pads. Less dust. Ceramics don't have the initial bite of metalic pads but resist fade well.

I just did my front brakes a week ago. I installed drilled and slotted Powerstop rotors and Wagner Thermoquiet Ceramic pads. What a great combo! The truck stops better than it ever did with the stock brakes. I installed powerstop rotors on my wifes Altima about 2 years ago, since her stock rotors were badly warped after only 45k miles. The Altima still stops fine and the drilled and slotted rotors are obviously staying cooler and not warping like the stock rotors did, and she now has close to 80k miles on her car now. That was my main deciding factor on which rotors to get for my truck.

well, got summit racing on the horn today and ordered EBC slotted rotors along with Hawk Performance LTS pads. Have a motor head buddy that did this same combo on HIS truck and he has been impressed. I drove his and the imporvement was quite noticable vs my current stock set-up....

Looking forward to putting it all on this WE. I'll report back my impressions...

New rotors are on, Hawk pads are on, and.....

much better braking. I really didn't appreciate how marginal my braking was, and how much rumble/chatter was coming thru with the OEM rotors and the stock pads.

Now, truck stops MUCH firmer, the brakes are as smooth as silk --- NO MORE of that slight rumble thru the steering wheel. Old (OEM) rotors were clearly grooved and warped. Passenger side pads looked like they had 8000-10000 miles left on them. Driver's side pads were signficiantly more worn. Not sure why. Checked everything, and no obvious problem.

Truck wasn't pulling before at all upon applying the brakes. No change in mpg recently. Dunno. I'll keep an eye on that.

Had bought shoes for the rear. Got that apart, and, the original shoes looked minimally worn (not too surprised). Just left them alone.

Veridct: Slotted rotors GOOD, Hawk pads GOOD, braking GREAT. I recommend it.

Also Summit Racing: GOOD

Thanks for posting your first impressions. I'm close to upgrading the rotors and pads on mine. I already decided on Hawk pads and planned on getting PowerSlot rotors but I'll check out the EBC rotors. I've had issues with my OEM rotors since I drove the truck off the lot with 6 miles on it.
