2001 Bcm In 1999 Silverado Help

First off I want to thank all the techs that help us out here on this forum. It has helped me out a lot!

I purchased a 1999 Silverado Z71 4x4 Extended cab truck after totaling my 2003 HD Diesel truck.

I could not stand the door locks on this truck so after researching this forum I was pleasently suprised I found all the information to purchase, install, and get the new BCM working.

Now I need to find out if I can program the 2001 BCM so my fog lights will work. Does anyone have any information about this?

Thanks a bunch!

I'd say the dealer will have to do that. They will have to get the program from GM and down load it to their tech 11 and then trans fer it to the BCM. Thats what I have had to do when adding features to my truck that didn't come on it.

Can I ask what was wrong with the door locks that you had to replace the BCM? Thanks.

Travis, the doors would lock and then never unlock. They now lock at 24 mph and unlock when I remove the key from the ignition. There was not a way to manually program the door locks on the 1999 BCM.

I am trying to avoid taking it to the dealer if at all possible. Are there any GM Techs out there that know the answer to my question?

Thanks

It's been a few years since I worked at a GM dealership, but I'm certain that your door locks could be programmed one of four different ways. The info was never in the owners manual for the '99's, and I think also the '00's, but it was in the '01 owners manual. We were paid to program the door locks for our customers for a time until GM send out updates to the owner's manuals to the owners of these trucks.

If I remember correctly, if you didn't have a Tech II to do it with, you could get into programming by pulling back on the turn signal switch and turning the key on and off a couple of times...I'd have to look it up, for sure, but I'm just certain that it could be done.

ETA: Jim, just found the thread where you found your info about switching BCM's....now I'm questioning myself, but I'm still 99% sure that 99's could be programmed.

Yes that is true but there were only 2 options. Program for the locks to lock at 24 mph and not unlock, or program so the locks never locked.

I was used to my 2003 truck where they would unlock when it was put in park or the key was removed.

This has totaly gotten off the orignal subject. I now have a 2001 BCM in my 1999 truck and want to get the fog lights to work without having to plunk down 80 bucks for the dealer to spend 10 minutes pulling levers and pushing buttons. Is there a way to program the BCM to get the fog lights to work in a similar fashion the door locks are programmed?
