3 in. Body or 6 in lift? Tire sizes/gears/etc.

The guys at 4 Wheel Parts told me that on an 01 tahoe w/autoride that the fabtech 6in is the way to go...i totally agreed till they told me i could only fit 305's..i almost started laughing...he said that tahoes sit 2in lower from the factory..this i have noticed...but..305's with 6 in suspension? i wanted to do 315's on the 6 in suspension..then i began to think about being a college student...3 in body would be way more in my budget..not look as good..but itll make due...i was thinkin that with 285's?...im concerned about gas mileage.. 4.56 gears maybe?...any clues...hints...etc...let me know..thanks...

I fit 305's on my truck w/ a 3" body lift.  I mean, really the body lifts don't look ugly on the new 1/2 ton trucks, they show about as much frame as an HD does.  It comes down to money though, a new set of meats and a b/l will run you less than a grand and you can install it yourself, for a suspension lift you're talking a lot of $$$
