Vin Doesn't Match Build Sheet

Recommended Posts

Hello: Brand new to this board and have a quick question just out of curiosity. I just bought a 2006 Sierra 1500 EC Z71 and the original window sticker and the build sheet state: 5.3 295HP IRON BLOCK V8; however, the VIN has a "B" engine code which I believe denotes L33, the glove box code lists L33 as well, and it is in fact an aluminum block. Just a misprint on the documents? Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Matt

Is the iron block the standard package and the L33 part of an upgrade listed farther down on the window sticker? Some of the options of the standard package get deleted when adding different packages.

It's listed under the Options section and is the the only mention of the engine. It states: LIGHT DUTY POWER PACKAGE INCL: 625

-VORTEC 5.3 295HP IRON BLK V8

-H.D REAR LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL

-H.D. TRAILERING EQUIPMENT

Odd that the VIN with the "B" in it is on both documents but no mention of the aluminum block.

Thats probably the issue,Post me the last 8 digits of the VIN,I should be able to verify it.

From your build sheet.....

L33 - VORTEC 5.3L 310HP ALUM BLK V8

PDU - LIGHT DUTY POWER PACKAGE INCL:

*VORTEC 5.3L 310HP ALUM BLK V8

*H.D. REAR LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL

*H.D. TRAILERING EQUIPMENT

Heres what your invoice shows...

PDU LIGHT DUTY POWER PACKAGE INCL:

*VORTEC 5.3L 295HP IRON BLK V8

*H.D. REAR LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL

*H.D. TRAILERING EQUIPMENT

I'm guessing the L33 alum. block 5.3 engine was a "no charge" option/upgrade at the time, and therefore thats why it shows on your build sheet,as it should, but on the invoice it shows the standard iron block LM7 5.3

Thanks very much...now that I look at the email that I received from the original dealer he calls the document an invoice. I assumed it was the build sheet because it had the codes on it. So I have the original window sticker and a copy of the original invoice but not the build sheet. How would I acquire the build sheet?

Your dealer can print one out for you.

How would I acquire the build sheet?

The build sheet is usually tossed when the truck is built.

The last few years in Oshawa, there wasn't as much paper created during the build as there used to be. Operators that had to deal w/ options or different models had a monitor in their work station that listed the CSN & model designation (CK10753 for example). They'd check the monitor & load or add the part(s) that particular model req'd.

When I started in the plant back in '85, the 1st job on each line in body, paint, chassis & motor was the scheduler. They loaded the floorpan, motor or bare cab & taped/clipped on the carrier the build sheet for the item in question.
