Got The New Brakes On!

Recommended Posts

I decided to put on my new EBC Dimpled/Slotted Rotors and Hawk Superduty Pads on tonight. I broke them in and so far so good. Felt good as far as no more brake shutter and stopping power, but more time will tell. I have some pictures too.

those look good man, i run ebc pads and rotors on my bike and i love them. how much did that setup set you back? and i ran some hawk hp plus pads on my car and they did great on track and autocross days. id imagine the stuff for the trucks would be just as good

Watch out for those superduty pads. After about 5K they started squealing like a son of a gun. Various things could get it to stop for a while but it always came back. Even my kids were complaining

Well the pads were about $93 and the Rotors were $250 so around $350 alltogether.

Looking good. What PN's did you use?

Im guessin you mean Part Numbers? I just got on Autoanything.com and put in my vehicle info and found the pads and rotors.

Thats nice for as much as I paid. I almost went with the LTS Series Pads, but didn't. I hope I don't regret it...

I don't have any small enough to fit under the truck, and I was never underneath any part of it except for my hands under the fender wells. I made sure of that because of not having any jack stands. If GM would make decent brakes to begin with I could have used that money for jack stands.

well said...... gm brakes suck. I have experience with Hawk HD brake pads. loved em. No problems whatsoever. Now the bad. Powerslot rotors 30,000 miles and one failed. The inner half of the pass rear rotor came apart and luckily we didnt kill the caliper. . Im sure you will like the pads. Hope you dpont have squeal issue.....

Don't have any "small enough to fit under the truck"???? Are you working in a tractor-trailer shop?

I never leave vehicles on jacks when I'm working on them; weather or not I'm under them. Jacks fail, jack stands do not. I'd hate like hell to have a jack fail and have to replace a side of front suspension, a fender, and my shorts. Jacks stands are cheap. But a set!

Alright jack stand police calm down! haha! Let the guy do what he wants! I use jacks and jack stands, some people don't. If your not under the vehicle it's not a huge issue. They don't supply jack stands to change a flat do they? He's changing pads and rotors...haha. Let's all be friends and not e-thugs! lol!! :P

Do you have stabilitrak?

tirerack.com states that none of the Hawk pads of compatible with trucks equipped with stabilitrak.

None of the other sites (including Hawk's website) mention this, so I am trying to figure out if this is indeed correct.

Yes I do. Everything works alright for me. IDK what the problem would be because these pads are the same as stock except for the pad material? I forgot to mention that the dealer tried fixing my shutter earlier this year, but it still did it after they turned the rotors and put new pads on. The new pads are supposed to be "new" and "Improved", but when I took them off the one side there were small gashes in the pads and the rotor has two nice size grooves on it. So Im guessing they just put more junk on when they tried to fix it. The more I drive the truck and get the new ones broken in the better they work. Drove in the rain last night, and they had great stopping power.

Brakes are Def my next upgrade. Only have 25k on the truck and it stops well enough, but a little better stopping power with this big tires will ease my mind a little.
