i was looking at some trucks on ebay today and saw a crew cab short bed silverado hd with 315/75,s on the oem 16x6.5 wheels.. im surprised they even fit,, cant be very safe or wear right. i always put 285,75 on the oem wheels and thought that was pushing it?

Yes, 285's IS pushing it....too far. I wouldn't put anything over a 265 on the factory 16" wheels.

It's not so much of a safety concern as it is a tire wear and ride quality concern. Most are just too

cheap to buy a properly fitting aftermarket wheel or don't know how to size one correctly to fit these

trucks.

A friend of mine has 315's on his 2500HD's stock rims. I thought they were only 285's at first, they are actually 315's. He's had them on for about 30K miles and has not had any problems. I don't think his truck sees a lot of heavy hauling, but he did have a pretty good size travel trailer he towed with the truck.

I personally wouldn't put 315's on those rims. Those tires are way to wide to be safe.

on tire racks site it say a 315/75 is an 8-10 inch rim, they tested on an 8.5 and the sec width was over 12" tread was 10.3.

scary scary on a 6.5 wheel

Tires on that width rim will wear the tire centers out in no time as they will be crowned bad and yes its trouble waiting to happen. 285s is pushing the limit on that rim. I had 285s on my stock rim Diesel 2500 and wound up taking them off and going back to stock size then selling them because when aired up the truck would handle like crap as you could feal it floating side to side cause the crown in the center of the tire
