95 Sierra Trany Problem?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Just bought 95 GMC Sierra. Drove fine. Got it home and it will move sometimes and sometimes it just sits still when you give it the gas. If I drive it cold, it will go. If I let it warm up some it won't. Any clues to what could be wrong? Thought if it was the trany it would not go all the time. Runs great when it doesn't have this problem.

First off, welcome aboard.

Secondly, did you buy it from a private owner or dealer? Sounds like the trans. Double check the fluid level. Does the motor rev and the truck not move? Does it do it in forward and reverse?

It was from a private owner. fluid levels are good. Yes you can put it in gear and give it gas but it will not move. It does it in both when it happens. It comes and goes. Sometime it runs fine and you can drive it around the yard and stop and put it in park and then back in drive or reverse and it does fine. As soon as it gets "warmed" up. It will stop moving.

Usually if its the trans though it would do it all the time not just when it warmed up.How is the rear any whines or clunks when you shift in to drive. How about manually shifting?Could be alot of things.Or a beat torque converter.

no whines or clunks. no warning at all when it does it. Gonna change the fluid and put on a new torque converter to see if that works.

if you're taking it out ,you may as well have someone rip it apart and see before you throw money at it with a torque converter.

im trying to tell you that the transmission is DONE !

find a trans capable scanner to check line pressures before you pull it...been there and done that and ended up being bad ground for ecm
