Right now the truck is riding on p245 70/R17 Used GoodYear tires in the rear and Balding Bridgestones in the front.

I would like to find new front tires that are more geared towards driving on paved roads as opposed to Off-roading. I don't Haul stuff on all the time, maybe once every 6 months a small load or something. I really just use my truck just for driving around the city. Phx az is really spread-out like that.

The other thing is, I feel paying 163 bucks for a new tire is really steep, especially when Discount throws on an additional $40 for labor, balancing or etc..(I dont see how thats a discount.), thats why I buy used. I also heard that my tire size is interchangable, so I was wondering if someone could help me out here with brand names or maybe a size that is Reasonable but will do the same job without blowing my budget.

try tirerack.com or go to discount tire,i live up here in flagstaff and have duratracks for the winter and bfg long trails for summer driving up here and down there.and i went up one size to the 265's because ther is not much to choose from in that 245 size.and the long trails cost me arund $140ish and discount matches or beats tirerack's or any other tire shop's prices.

I'll try Wal-Mart, I called around mesa and someone was selling Primewell tires for $110, but they are not that good, they say those tires squeele and are not reliable in winter conditions, a few extra bucks for a descent tire is what I'm looking for and those arent it. I already have people looking at my vehicle because the engine rattles and emits a lite scueak noise.

My truck isnt lifted either, I'll look into the 265's thanx.

Contact your local Big-O, Discount Tire, Firestone etc... and see if they'll work you a deal on some take-off tires. They'll be almost like new in most cases and you an get a good deal with the install cost included.

I found P235/70R17XL DUELER RVT OWL Bridgestone, I like the tread on these tires too, they are $124 at walmart. For new tires I will go with these it puts my mind at rest. The 265 were a $10 to $20 more, the 235's were a better deal. For a lite truck tire these are perfect. Thanx everyone.

Just remember, you get what you pay for. If you want a smooth riding tire with off-roading capability the Michelin LTX M/S is the best riding tire out there. Discount Tire will match prices from Wal-Mart or other stores. I've never been a fan of Bridgestone/Firestone which is why I always drive to a tire store after purchasing my new vehicle buying new tires. This goes back to their dealing on the Explorer tires and how they compromised quality and cost people their lives.

watch out for cheap tires! ... I am not saying WALMART tires are crap, as I have had good luck with WALMART tires when I owned and drove a small car for many years ... but for a truck, I would choose a good brand name (not Firestone or Bridgestone) and style of tire to serve my needs ... then you could price shop the brand and model of tire to make sure you are not paying too much...

 

- and I would NOT go to a smaller tire than originally equipment on any vehicle .. you are just asking for problems in terms of load capacity and tire wall stability ... and ultimately your safety!

agreed got the cooper atrs 315 75 16 on my truck they are a sick tire and spent like 225 a peice

thats yalls opinion. thanx for the numbers. Hankook maybe 135. but after a 50 dollar fee and some dude who smells like coffee trying to push warranty fees for extra $$$, with eyes buggin out tryin to see how money I got, aint right. I'm stayin away from discount, they look like they run a legitamate sweat shop with all those dudes running around like they're gonna get fired.

The title says AFFORDABLE tires, not break the budget or go for broke tires, maybe if i own a fancy red brick house someday, I'll buy a star destroyer and but galaxy class rims on it with laser tracers and hog up lanes so you wont see emergency vehicles plowing down the road.

dont mean to be critical, but I'm just sayin.

The other thing is, i see full size trucks on the road and have rims that are 16's hauling a huge ride, mainly on newer trucks with extended cabs and campers and on older chevy's that are single cab with a long bed, I think P235's are good enough for a short bed single cab. Our country makes good tires its not like they are coming from india or china or bangladesh, p235's are good enough for budget tires. I also saw some michelins at walmart, I'm gonna take a look at those and check the ratings.

I have to express thanx for saftey, i did get used tires once that shredded up on an older ride that did some nice body damage. So i thank you for your concern. Thats why I'm trying to do the Dave Ramsey thang and move up by notches not leaps. I'm sure others feel the same way as me.

Treadwright tire....I have a set of their 285/65/18 in the BFG A/T pattern and love them...mine were 123.00 each. Got over 6K miles on them and not one issue. In fact there was only one tire that needed 3.75 oz. to balance out. All the rest were under 3 oz...Just saying...

I have heard that WalMart will only install the factory designated size tire for your vehicle..... I went up a size, or two and Walmarts prices weren't that great anyhow. The tire selection kinda sucked too.

You have to be careful with buying From Walmart on there Tires.They get deals from manufacturers on old new stock.Make sure you check the DOT codes and are not buying a new tire which is really 2 years old.

      Does your dealer charge you for the tire rotation on top of the oil change price ?. I haven't had any service work done at my dealer yet other than when I brought it back soon after owning it to have the front end aligned to correct the steering wheel being off center a bit. Oh they called me at least twice hounding me to bring it in for an oil change and pushing a 300.00 package of oil change and tire rotation and whatever other quick simplistic checks they would do. Only going off of what a friend gets charged for his half ton for the basic oil change and its the same amount of oil as the L8T holds, it was about 150.00. Once one buys a set of tires from most shops these days or so I believe, they will do free tire rotations and some do free tire balancing as well as free tire repairs.    Certainly doing a tire rotation is no five minute job, and definitely not at home but because I run a set of winter tires on their own wheels, I swap them at home and its a one tire at a time deal because of the tire season swap although I jack up the rear and do it and drop it back down and then raise the front and do them and coordinate the tire rotation into that process for both sets of tires. I am using a floor jack though and if I need to raise both ends at once I use a couple sets of jack stands to have all four tires off the ground. I use either an air impact or battery impact and have electric impact as well so no shortage there of easy methods to spin the lug nuts, and then retorquing the lug nuts. None of it goes quick though but my wages are cheap though ... zero. I live an hour out of town, its easier just to do things like that myself than waste a bunch of time in town and having to make an appointment and probably a special trip and sit there at the tire shop waiting for them to get my vehicle in and get it done and not screw something up in the process.

      I do have the 8 speed.  Interestingly enough, after driving my truck for the past 2 days now, I have not had the clunking issue at all!  I am beginning to think it may have been suspension/leaf spring related, and somehow when the shop put my truck on the lift to do their initial inspection, it relieved some built up tension/pressure that was causing my problem.  I swear it felt I was a bull rider on a bucking bull the way the truck would almost rock back and forth slightly before the big thud/clunk when coming to a stop.  I am hoping I got lucky here and it's gone for good.

      Bring it to discount tire. They do free rotations even if you didn’t buy your tires there. I didn’t believe it until I tried and they did. You can tip the employee if you would like

      Best part of this video is how it resets expectations. Wonderfully done piece. It also made clear a few points I've made from day one. Detergent oils DO NOT KEEP A MOTOR CLEAN at the recommended or longer change intervals. They just get dirty slower than a non-detergent oil and there isn't spits difference between them on this point if they carry the DEXOS license. Great thing about the license that gets missed is it assures CONFORMITY even it that means a low bar.    One thing he did not talk about that I paused on an magnified was the condition of the oil ring separator. Besides a stuck ring a plugged separator and land drain back is huge when it comes control. We see in short order improvement in control IF that is the problem.    Another item I took exception to and he did not make plain was the condition of the timing chest and under valve cover having something to do with indicating piston cleanliness. Schaeffer's Oil makes that same omission in their million mile Ford video. I'm guessing he has never torn down a Red Line HP, AMSOIL SS motor that has been on that diet from the get. What he showed in the video was a good deal of varnish. Something totally absent in Peppers 165K cover off look. I smiled because he did his at the same milage.    He also makes the mistake of assuming oil temperatures in the pan are the temperature all over the motor even though he makes note of the piston being the hottest part of the engine. that baffled me a bit.    I can tell you from personal experience and witnessing teardowns of family motors that even oils of the 1960's would keep them squeaky clean when OCI's were 1500 to 2000 miles without exception. At 3K and above you get what he experienced and the longer you leave it the quicker to gets to the junkyard.    I think his is missing a opportunity not tearing it down again when he's done killing it. Time would be his only cost.

      Very often the part number on the trim part is just for the vendor order/assembly plant and will not show up in the parts system.  They won't make a bunch of extra parts that were not ordered. Keep in mind, lots of these parts were made to be "just in time" parts meaning they were dedicated to a vehicles ordered and sequenced for assembly.       Also, trim parts will often say, paint to match.
