Piston Slap?

I assume this is piston slap, but if my truck sits for more then 8 hours in the cold it knocks for about 30 seconds on start up...you can hear the knocking through the tail pipe, funny thing is if i drive it then shut it down it dosen't generally happen again for quite awhile...any thoughts?

Mine does the exact thing, but it's still strong as hell, so I don't care. I do admit, it does sound bad, though.

whats even stranger is, i sometimes get warm engine knock at start up truck runs like a champ but it does sound sickley lol

Mine has a fiant tap all the time at idle, but I chalk that up to lifter tap. It's not too loud.

yeah i noticed alot of 2500/3500 gassers have a tapping, even with load on the motor they sound like they have diesel injectors

Under load that would be ping, my truck did that once, I must have got bad gas. I got on it and itr sounded like all the bolts in the engine were rattling, so I put more gas in it pronto, and it's never done that again.

i find it funny nobody pokes fun at the other million over posted topics, i was just curious if this is truely piston slap as i have the only gm 5.3 in the family so i can't compare it too easily...

yes good call, i'll add that too my list with lift kits,exhaust and a/c not working threads..ew and i can't forget the CAI threads hewee those are like herpes

It could be the lifters, there are plenty enough people on this forum with that problem.
