hot37shot Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I have a problem with my 383 chevy which was built by speed o motive about 10k miles ago. I have good pressure at idle and at normal cruising rpm's. However, when I get on it(from a dead stop) or hold the rpm's 3500-4000 i notice a fluctuation in pressure. It would go from 60 to 20 and back up if I let up on the throttle. Whats going on? This has been going on for some time now, the thing runs damm good though! specs: 383, dart aluminum heads, hydraulic cam, melling oil pump, deep oil pan, mechanical press gage, roller rockers, naturally asperated in a 1969 C10. Thanks Shawn
98trck Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 it could be the oil pressuse sending unit going bad or the gage i know its going bad on my truck the gage jumps eraticly i wrote this then i read mechanical press gage PETE
Mojavered Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I would start with the gauges. How big oil pan?
ChevyTech77 Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I hate to say this but, the engine oil is filled to the correct level right? Otherwise, excessive crankshaft end play or too much connecting rod side clearance, is my guess.
hot37shot Posted December 11, 2010 Author Posted December 11, 2010 The oil level should be correct. Its a 7 qt pan. I put 7 qts plus 1/2 to account for the filter. I also have new mechanical gages. Could this problem be related to my fram filter? I just found out not many people like those filters on this site. I use PH13. Could it be wrong clearance between the pickup and the pan? At any rate, the thing runs sweet. I might just let it ride, lol. Thanks alot for the help Shawn
