05 Equinox Heated Seat Too Hot

My wifes 2005 Equinox (just off warranty) has developed a problem with the drivers side heated leather seat. When put in the high heat mode it gets too hot after about three to four minutes and she has to turn it to the low setting. The low setting works fine. The passenger side seat works fine in both settings. I tried it myself and it gets so hot that it is unberrable. Does any one have any sugestions as to what the problem is? Is there a relay, thermostat or switch I can change out or test for continuity? Thanks.

Sounds like a thermostat that is out of range.

I wouldn't say too hot to cook an egg; but unberable. I have drove the vehicle several times and used the seat warmer and do not recall it being this hot.

Any idea where that is? I looked under the seat and could see a module where wires from the switch and wires from the seat connect to. Would this module contain the thermostat?

Could be some of the resistive elements in the heater have become shorted. Can you find the connectors for the heaters in each seat and compare the resistance of each?

I would think it would be built into the heating element since it has to take the temperature reading at the source. As to how to find/fix it, not sure. Maybe contact an upholstery shop. They might have an idea. Some are used by dealers to work on stuff like that, at least around here in NC they do.

I checked the resistance in each seat and determined that the drivers side element was defective. Both modules for the heated seats checked out ok.
