Factory Tint

My dad bought a extended cab Z71 over the weekend but the windows were not tinted from the factory. I have never seen a extended cab Z without tinted windows until now. Anyways he wants to tint the windows the same as from the factory. Does anyone know the percentage of tint the back window and the 2 extended cab windows have? I called a tint place and they didn't know but said they have 20%. How dark is 20%?

Is the factory tint actually film or is it dark glass? I have 35% on my reg cab side windows (Legal in WV) and 5% on the rear, I would go with 5% everywhere that didnt require the legal limit!

I believe the x-cab has 20% tint on it.

Yes, they come with 20% from the factory, its not film, its accually smoked on the glass.

Thanks for the offer GnatGoSplat, but no thanks. I don't think my dad would want an extra back window in his garage either. I called around and for $125 they will tint the back with 10%, the back sides with 20% and two fronts with 35%. I think thats a good deal.

What do you have as a back window now?

How difficult is it to take out the back window and put one in? Do you have to buy new gaskets or weather stripping? My buddy had his window busted out and a new one put in and ever since it has leaked every time it rains (that is alot in Houston).

I'm pretty sure factory tint on the back and sides is 15%. I had 30% put on the front. Looks good, but wish I had gone a little darker and had my back tinted to 10%. Be sure you are getting really good quality tint paper (if not the best). One of my good friends has been tinting for years and says it makes a big difference (especially over time) and keeps it from bubbling over the years. Also, be sure that you check on the legal limits in your state. I had my wifes car tinted and then we moved to Texas and when she had her car inspected they made us take it off for being too dark (bummer).
