08 'rado Engine Issues

OK, so I think I saw several folks having these issues. First, I have 46K miles and I'm using about a quart of oil a month (I use Amsoil). My oil pressure sending unit was reporting bad when I put the computer on it due to the check engine light being on. So, I changed out the sending unit, that's when I realized the oil was WAY low. Filled her up and all was well...but I'm irritated that it's using this much oil, especially at the cost of Amsoil.

Then, I'm seriousely upset about my MPGs. I'm averaging just below 15 (about 14.8 usually) which I check manually so I know it's accurate. Without getting into the whole "well it's a truck" conversation, I did expect better out of the AFM system, but yes, I do realize it's a truck. But my old '99 Sierra AVERAGED 18mpg STOCK. I do have flowmasters on my new truck, and by virtue of helping the engine breathe I figured it would help, aside from sound good.

I also had a '04 Tahoe which I tried the K&N air filter on, that didn't help performance at all but I didn't change out the intake pipe though. I may do that on this truck over time.

The big issue here is the oil consumption...and I'm mad enough that I'm considering a switch to Ford. (but not until I talk to GM and see what they say) I'm calling GM today...but if anyone has any suggestions in that regard, I'd be happy to hear them. Also, I'm going to bring up the TSB on the lifters in the engines with the AFM system as well. Thoughts on that? Has anyone had that work done and have they had any lingering issues after the work was complete?

Thanks all - I'm just really frustrated...and this is my 10th chevy car/truck/suv I've owned. I don't want to switch brands as I've always LOVED my vehicles and am a bowtie guy through and through.

is your truck the 5.3Ltr

Sound like you need to tell your dealer to replace your AFM lifters. Oil consumption and the lifter ticking on cold startups is the AFM lifter problem.

There is a recall on the AFM Lifters

I just had my truck done 2009 GMC Sierra 5.3L, 33,000Kms

Never tried Bull Crap in a GM or Ford. Can't be no worse than the luck we had with Amsoil.

If you require luck to change oil, ah nevermind, amsoil haters are convinced that synthetic oil is the problem
