I have an 04 Silverado 2500 HD. My truck is badged as a 2500HD the gvw is 8600. Is this possible I thought that all the HD's were 9200. If so what are the difference suspension wise.

That truck would be a 2500 non HD. Have any pictures?

 

8600 gvw trucks have a 9.5 inch semi floater axle out back, versus a full floater 10.5 inch rear in the HD's.

8600 is just a 2500. 9200 is HD

 

As mentioned the rear end is a bigger full float in the HD. Pull off the plastic/chrome wheel cover from a rear wheel. The full float will have the axle cover sticking out the center with 8 bolts on the cover. 2500 will not have any thing sticking out the center.

 

The HD sits 2 " higher in the front. There will be a 2" plastic spacer between the top of the bumper and the light.

The 8600 GVW on the door jamb or the registration? I was under the impression all 2500s in '04 were HDs.

The 01-04 GM 2500 LD & HDs use the same frame.

There are suspension differences that vary the GVW.
