Normal For New Breaks To Smoke

I ran out of daylight today when doing my front breaks. I only had time to replace the front right pads and rotor. After a quick road test, everything seemed find. But when I pulled back into my drive way, I smelled a little burning and noticed some smoke coming from the new breaks. I grabbed a Fluke laser thermometer. The new rotor was 144 degrees, but the old one on the front left was actually 160. So I don't think the new hardware was over heating. Was the smoke just oil/dirt whatever funk from the factory just burning off?

I have never seen brakes smoke that didn't have a problem. If it was something burning off the new hardware, I doubt it came from the factory.

Did you clean the new rotor of all oil and preservative? New rotors will usually have some oil on them from production. Even greasy hands will deposit enough oil to make them smoke.

A quick spray of non-chlorinated brake parts cleaner and wipe it off with a clean cloth should remove any contaminants.
