I finally got my trailer hitch installed on my truck monday morning so i was itching to use my hitch even if the trailer was empty.. Just to try it out..

 

Anyway my trailer needed some washing so i took it to the local car wash and then to the mall.. So i get out check all my connections just for the fun of it and walk inside.. I was in there for 30 min - 45 min.. I come out and checked it again just to be on the safe side..

 

What do i find??? Someone unhooked my chains, undid the latch on the ball, and opened the back door *enclosed trailer*

 

They were smart they didnt unhook my lights cause i would have seen something was wrong and i would have had to go back and look..

 

I cant even believe that someone would do that.. Total pi$$ off for me on the way home.. That would have been nice if i didnt check cause the first bump the trailer would have been gone and i would have had a major insurance claim on my hands..

 

I never thought people could be that low but there are people out there who are!

some form of joke i guess.. i probably would have never made it out of the parking lot *if i missed it* but if it stuck on the ball by a fluke of a chance the possibilities of what could have happened would me horrifing!

 

Someone knew what they were doing or they would have unplugged my wiring if they havent had done it before..  

 

The only thing i was worried about was someone stealing my trailer because it doesnt take much if you leave it in a parking lot.. Just unhook quickly and go.. They were inside because they opened my back door..

 

It would have been perfect with my first night pulling the trailer.. I was in such a great mood because it turns out the silverado has a bad wiring problem so i could never get the lights on my trailer to work properly.. Once i plugged mine in it lit up like a christmas tree.. I was just driving it around proudly to show it off.. :P

 

It wrecked my night just put it at that..  I m still pi$$ed off about it.. I wish i could have caught them in the act or something..

that sucks.

 

i'd be pissed off too if i found that done to my sport hauler. most likely the punk(s) would have stolen or tried to steal my easy lift bars.  tho it would probably break their hand if they didnt have the little bar. only way they would have gotten in my trailer is if they broke in.. i have a pad lock on the tailgate and always lock the dead bolt on the door.

Yea, some people just don't care about the consequences of their acts.

 

Reminds me of a terrible accident that happened in Mobile Alabama a year and a half ago.

 

Guy was hauling a backhoe down Interstate 65 when the trailer seperated. As it went across the median, it somehow got airborne and landed in the windshield area of a Jeep Cherokee. Man and wife gone.

 

There was a full investigation of course, but I never heard what they found out. I was just traveling through Mobile at the time and read it in the paper.

I can't believe that either.  I mean, even as a joke it's not funny.  If you had made it to the freeway and your trailer unhitched you and everyone on the road would've had a big problem.  It's good to hear that you checked the connections and found the problem.  Next time you should go to the mall and have someone else drive, wait in the back of the trailer and hope they come back.  That should scare the hell out of them.  Open the trailer and find you waiting.

Too bad you couldn't have caught them in the trailer. Could've shut the door and took the for a "nice" ride they'd never soon forget.

Yup..

 

What was wierd they didnt touch anything inside.. I had some expensive ratchet straps that cost me close to 60 bucks and there were 3 in there.. There still there..

 

Other than that nothing was in there.. The only reason why i checked the connections before i left was because i figured something would have happened..

Even as a prank its not funny.. If by fluke i did make it to the freeway *which was were i was headed btw* it would have guaranteed come off then.. Its scary to think of the possibilities!  Its a shame that you cant leave anything there anymore before someone will try to do that..

 

I m just glad my awareness got the best of the guys who did it..

Yep, thats real nice of somebody to do.  Does your trailer have some sort of emergency brake cable attached to the truck, so if the trailer comes unhitched, it locks the brakes down on the trailer?  All of our smaller trailers like yours have one.

 

And on the same sort of note, a buddy of mine had his truck broken into last night.  He had an amp, stereo, and his shotgun stolen.  He had just put his shotgun in the truck that night so he could leave to go hunting first thing in the morning.  And the worse part is, the police think it was and 11 and 14 year old kids that did this.  I can't understand it.

Something similar happened to my Dad a few years ago while his Sub and trailer were parked at a trailhead while we were out sledding.

When we got back from riding, I dropped the ramp and started his sled up the ramp onto the trailer when the hitch popped off the ball skyward!  The foward  motion forced the hitch to stove in one of the barn doors, but because the chains were still hooked up at least the hitch didn't plow through the glass.

I felt terrible until we realized that someone had popped the latch and it wasn't something I had done.  My Dad was not amused and since padlocks the latch.  Of course we never found out who did it.

Sorry Steve about your misfortune, glad no one was hurt.  I don't know what some people are thinking   :angry:

master lock sella nice 2 piece kit of "barbell" locks one for the reciever and one for the trailer only $26 good setup they look good and will prevent this sort of thing

 

 

for some reason they are not on thier site?

Makes you wonder why people can't keep their d@mn hands off stuff that ain't their's!  Definitely invest a few $$ in a hitch latch lock.  I always keep mine on just to keep the latch from popping open on it's own.  Who knows what could happen on the freeway?

      Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.

      No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.

      Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.

      I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
